President Donald Trump appears to be cooling on expanding gun background checks after conversations with gun rights activists in Bedminster, New Jersey last week.

“People don’t realize we have very strong background checks right now,” the president told reporters while leaving New Jersey at the end of his two-week vacation, adding that he is “very, very concerned with the Second Amendment.”

I understand the br checks in NJ but they are a ton restrictive. How about the checks in ... I will use Florida and Texas as examples.

We should enforce the laws that we have now.

Clearing the national database for gun purchase can take many days. Some say that it was very time consuming under Obama. That should be cleaned up in my opinion.

The big problem is in the determination of "mental illness".

Some standards would have veterans returning from combat as being at risk.

Another what if is "deplorables" clinging to their guns and bibles who were also remarked as bitter and frustrated.

What if bitterness and frustration becomes one of the measuring yardstick to "mental illness"?
OR the hate crimes coming as soon as the globalists get power back
e.g. What if someone believes the intimacies of same sex marriage are sinful OR there is only Birth Gender

    The camel's nose...

    etc, etc, etc...

Perhaps there was a time when it might have been legit, but not now. It is beyond foolish to give atheists free reign here. Psychology long ago became suspect. "First psychology lost its soul, then it lost its mind, then it lost consciousness; it still has behavior, of a kind," (variously attributed). More to the point, its conscience is seared. And psychiatry is just psychology on drugs.

Will/does a visit to a psychologist or psychiatrist automatically flag you as MENTALLY ILL?

Of course no one wants a Looney Tune loose on the streets with any kind of deadly weapon GUN OR OTHERWISE but be assured that anything coming out of an emotional catharsis like the El Paso mass murder will come under the venue of "Don't let a crisis go to waste" and will be designed to be expanded into gun confiscation.

    Fake News Baloney:
to not support new legislation restricting gun ownership of the "mentally Ill" makes one guilty of any new "El Paso" type death scenes.

Reality:More regulations restricting gun ownership will ultimately cause death by increasing the number of "soft targets" and decreasing the number of armed citizens as protectors.

Then there is the proverbial 800 lb gorilla in the room:
What needs to be questioned is why the increase of these shootings over say the 1950's?

Might it be because of the influence of insane and violent mass murder hero movies coming out of Hollywood
e.g. the John Wick series and insane and violent War Games e.g. Madworld.

Might it be the influence of Hollywood Moguls expressing VIOLENCE?
Hollywood moguls expressing desire to "blow up the white house", displaying the decapitated head of President Trump, expressing the desire to punch the president in the face, take him out behind the gym, asking when was the last time an actor assassinated a president and on and on...

How about some restrictive laws preventing these influences?
How many lives will be saved?

    Common Sense?

He needs to tread carefully on gun control issues if he wants a second term.

The disqualification criteria is set by BATFE. Florida and Tenn will exclude more than the liberal states because they actually report their mental health disqualifications to NCIC. The leftists use privacy as an excuse not to report.

I am as anti gun control as they come. I think Trump is using his Typical Trump way to point out that ALL the background check laws the Dems say we need, are in fact already the law of the land.

He needs to be especially careful not to sign an unconstitutional "red flag" law. I haven't seen one yet that would pass the Constitutional smell test.

Right - that is why nothing in my post number 6 requires FIREARM regulations for the public.

The Progressives like to immediately start blabbing about gun control when there is a mass murder with guns.
If there must be controlling restrictions of rights, how about some greed control of the movie and PC game industry?

How about some restrictions on the talk about beating/killing the president?
This kind of talk was at on time AGAINST THE LAW until Hollywood decided to make it legal.

No ONE DID ANYTHING including the RNC when President Trump's decapitated head was displayed on national TV for the entire world to see.

Don't tell me that doesn't inspire the kooks out there to try to bring it to pass.

Where was one Republican to file a law suit against this ONE TIME criminal act?

Where is a Republican Bill to protect the president from those who threaten his life and express a desire to blow up the white house?

    OH they were just kidding!
OH YA, what if Sean Hannity said that when Obama lived there?

Privacy and stigma. There is no stigma about disease. The left and the liberals are both lazy and crazy.

I think if he did sign one, he would make absolutely sure it was indeed UN Constitutional.

    Who knows?
When I say disqualified, I am referring to the Federal standard. Pretty much it's anyone who has been forcibly institutionalized in the last 2 years. It seems there are a few other odd ones, but very uncommon.

Don't forget Uncle KNOWS EVERY JOT AND TITTLE you have typed.

All it takes is an establishment Dr. or PhD to say you are institution material and you are taken away.
Very rare today but it happens and will happen more and more.

We have intersected the generation which will replace us (well my generation anyway).
    They far outweigh thinking conservatives.
This next generation may be the one to see Him coming in glory. It seems so.

if not we have a great opportunity to obey this passage as well as letting our light shine before men because it is not our own light but that of Him that is in us.

So this next passage is good. There is some truth to the saying that we cling to our bibles (The Word of God).

    1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
    3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

It must depend on the state because Bill Cunningham from Cincinnati on national radio has been saying that he worked on these things as a lawyer in the Ohio Attorney General office and they had to go to court. Bill Cunningham says that the police with a court order take the guns but leave the ill person on his own. Americans are not that compassionate.
