China has recently devalued its currency. This is an effort to make their exports cheaper to the rest of the world. Lowering the value of your currency is not a move that is made by a country that is winning a trade war.

    Your assertion is false.

Not only that but if one actually reads the John Deere article it's mostly about how weather has hurt sales of new equipment, not the trade war.

JD and Cat have always irked me. China bought their product simply so that the US govt would have 2 poster children to say "We are doing wonderful trading with China."

    Learn basic economics

Trade War made dollars scarce in China which in turn made it expensive. This weakens the reminbi/Yuan. China normally intervenes but it chose not to in the scale expected. The weakening Yuan is Trump's doing

You can't consume all of them locally. Point of those two news items is to show how industries are suffering.

Do you have a timeframe in mind?
How would you measure success of this trade War?

I ask so I can revive this thread once your timeframe is lapsed and check how well we are scoring

China did not intervene? The yuan weakening is Trump's doing?

Over the weekend, China deployed another arrow in its quiver, allowing the value of its currency, the yuan, to drop against the dollar by 2%. The current value is about 7.05, meaning that a dollar could buy 7.05 yuan, rather than the previous roughly 6.9 yuan to the dollar, the first time it has fallen to that level since April 2008.
Behind China's 'Momentous' Decision to Weaponize the Yuan

The Chinese government devalued the yuan to fall below its 7-to-1 ratio with the US dollar for the first time in a decade Monday. A weaker currency could soften the tariff blow the United States has dealt China.

Umm, China (Xi Jinping) will wait until the 2020 election is a done deal and then quickly cave if Trump is reelected.

Otherwise if its the DNC its an unknown because they have backed Trump somewhat with the China trade/tariff issue.

If it is a total win for the Democrats (all 3 branches) then China will probably negotiate the same as if it were Trump.

No more tariffs, no more stealing/demanding secrets.

they will ALWAYS MANIPULATE the Yuan no matter what they promise.

If its a mixed bag of Democrats and/or a weak president (Biden e.i.) China will squash us again.

We can consume them domestically. The price will fall and more people in USA will be able to eat lobster.
    US steel industry is booming.

#1 Lobsters are dirty nasty bottom dwellers that feed and grow on eating dead rotting fish and fish poop and I would just as soon lick the inside of a garbage can as eat one of those things! :Sick:D

#2 No one EVER claimed that a trade war with China would not have ANY consequences so "your point" of showing two industries with some hardship is ABSOLUTELY LOGICALLY MEANINGLESS!

    LOL!

They are basically the insects of the sea. They skitter around on the bottom of the ocean floor with spindly legs, have bug-eyes and antennas, and a hard shell body. Bug Meat. No thanks.

Similar to pigs who are top dwellers and love garbage, swill and rottenness...

God has given them bodies with POWERFUL cleaning ability and their flesh is OK.

    And Jesus made them kosher

    Acts 10
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

    :)

I particularly liked the fantastic ending of the article:

"The most important thing is let the free market economy come back to being and let trade happen. And that will make everybody pretty happy."

“Usually” for something to come back to being, it must have been before. Communist China has never been about free market.
