That last piece of advice? Bad idea. The call centers are running over an hour behind.
So much for "ready to roll out."
This doesn't even touch on the other problems, such as suspicions the premiums quoted on the website are wrong, and uniformly they are displayed at a lower cost than what is carried on the paperwork that arrives after sign-up. This has been the case for 18 federally-run exchanges for states that refused to set up a state exchange, many of which went online two to three weeks ago.
Also, individual costs of healthcare are said to likely increase dramatically. Last week, HHS proudly announced that the final premiums it’s decided on are lower than the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) had originally predicted. But though the prices are lower than the CBO had thought, both of those numbers are dramatically higher than what Americans currently pay.
As predicted, the laughably named Affordable Care Act isn't, it doesn't work, and it will indeed reform the health care system -- for the worse -- regardless of those "sweetheart" rates you may have seen in preliminary information provided to you.

Does this mean social medicine may not be working after all?
I know I did not get much past college algebra; but how can insurance companies pay for thousands of pre-existing conditions while taking in minimal premiums before going bankrupt? Some one will have to co-pay--but not the patients.
How long before U.ncle S.ugar will be bailing out the insurance companies?
Just print some more money and move the debt ceiling.
I guess small business will pick up the deficit.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

They announced last night that the OR system site has so many flaws that you can't use it yourself, you have to contact a "certified insurance agent" that will help you navigate around the problems.

I was worried so I called up my insurance provider under a (provider name)social security coverage.
They said the effect on it is for everybody is that our premiums will have to go up.
Mine from $49.00 to $72.00 under a PPO plan.
To counteract it, my provider says I can switch from PPO to HMO which is considerably lesser in premium but a bit higher for physician visit, specialist visit, emergency services, and out of pocket, so, I guess, in answer to somebody's question, that is how the insurance company will cope with the added burdens, pass it on to the consumer and then sugar it a little.
but primarily the ones that will be affected will be those below 60, and those in the younger and considerably healthier group (20's and under 35) who do not wish to have any insurance at all that could cut into their pay, at this stage of their physical abilities.
Now, they WILL HAVE TO sign up for insurance, whether they like it or not.
And this will also include those who have no employment to speak of, although he could not elaborate on it more due to time restraint.
call centers always have this "call handle time" metric to honor. -

oh, by the way, this is not meant to derail.
just an added observation.
I did watch Obama on tv (much as I feel nauseated) and he was his usual "everybody's fault but mine" self.
rather whiningly undignified for a president of a country now "more greatly respected among nations". -
As of 2:00 p.m. today, among those who managed to get online before the crash, the most asked question was, "How can I avoid paying a penalty and still not buy the insurance?"
So much for people wanting to actually sign up ... -

Here is another missed opportunity by the Republicans. It is being widely reported that the exchanges websites are frozen or super slow. Instead of talking up the failure of the launch of Obamacare they are staging silly photos of House Republicans sitting on one side of a table and empty chairs on the other to "prove" Democrats don't negotiate.
