On the subject of Petraeus he cited their wisdom/morality.
Either he has faith in their wisdom/morality or he doesn't.
But yes I agree he has every right to continue to contradict people whose judgment he trusts.
Undoubtedly, he will continue to do so.
They have, and that is my point.
Every time they do, there is an uproar that they are wasting taxpayer dollars.
I agree that they are now and then.
If there were an even uproar for either, then it would be and should be a moot point.
Congress is in it, for the most part for themselves.
We all should reconize that and call it as it is and not as we see it through rose colored glasses.
It's a waste of their session time and my money, I want them to get to real business and shore up our borders.
The Senators are citizens, and are voting as such. This is a republic. They vote their conscience. They are not bound by mine. Furthemore, the restriction of the first amendment is on making laws respecting the free exercise of religion or speech. As you can tell by reading, no law was made here, and thus the first amendment is standing proud, vindicated both by moveon.org and the US Senate.
Thanx for the explanin'. I agree with the second two statements, I don't remember a whole lot of uproar over the non-binders. But yes, they are in it for themselves, and the war on terror would be a lot easier to support if the people in power showed they were really serious about our safety. But hey, with high-tech's prices coming sown so far, it's a lot cheaper to spy on real Americans than keep illegal ones out.
Even votes on non -binding resolutions are instructive concerning the mindset of Senators.
Since moveon was not mentioned by name in the resolution, it was an opportunity for senators to take a stand against the maligning of the military by liberal groups without actually naming names.
Democrats failed this test miserably.
Only 23 democrats voted in favor of this resolution.
Only 4 of those are up for re-election in 2008.
Most of the democrats that were willing to cross moveon are years away from any possible retaliation by moveon.
The rest are cowards, afraid of the group that claims to "own" the democrat party.
4 lone Senators had the courage to face the immediate retribution of their radical "owner".
The rest are either cowards or believe publicly assaulting the reputations of our military is just fine.
