And the "real truth" will shock no one.
It's all old info.
Same song, just another verse. -
Sad thing is you're probably right.
We have become largely accustomed to the mistreatment of others and criminals acts amongst our "officials" as normal.
We truely are an "ends justifies the means society" now, even when we aren't really sure of what the "means" is or who benefits most from it. -
What do you mean, "now"? Been that way for a long, long time.
-
We were never this far gone before. Not that I remember anyway. -
Only evil men seek to suppress the truth. I hope all the truth does come out.
I don’t know Poncho, from Kennedy and Johnson to Nixon there was a lot of coverup and crimes. From what I have read Roosevelt, Truman, and Eisenhower were not much better although never under as much scrutiny.
I don’t know that the government today is much worse, perhaps they are. I did feel that the Carter and Regan administrations set a higher standard and we had higher expectations after that. Expectations that sadly the Bushes, Clinton, and Obama have all failed to meet. Open and transparent, yea right. -
I believe what the Pentagon and all the military contractors and corporations involved in our interventionist foreign policy fear most is that the American people will learn the terrible truth about terrorism itself.
That most of it is in fact caused by our hundred year old interventionist policy and not Islamic fundamentalism.
For instance . . .
New research provides strong evidence that suicide terrorism such as that of 9/11 is particularly sensitive to foreign military occupation, and not Islamic fundamentalism or any ideology independent of this crucial circumstance. Although this pattern began to emerge in the 1980s and 1990s, a wealth of new data presents a powerful picture.
More than 95 percent of all suicide attacks are in response to foreign occupation, according to extensive research [co-authored by James K. Feldman - former professor of decision analysis and economics at the Air Force Institute of Technology and the School of Advanced Airpower Studies] that we conducted at the University of Chicago's Project on Security and Terrorism, where we examined every one of the over 2,200 suicide attacks across the world from 1980 to the present day. As the United States has occupied Afghanistan and Iraq, which have a combined population of about 60 million, total suicide attacks worldwide have risen dramatically -- from about 300 from 1980 to 2003, to 1,800 from 2004 to 2009. Further, over 90 percent of suicide attacks worldwide are now anti-American. The vast majority of suicide terrorists hail from the local region threatened by foreign troops, which is why 90 percent of suicide attackers in Afghanistan are Afghans.
<snip>
The first step is recognizing that occupations in the Muslim world don't make Americans any safer -- in fact, they are at the heart of the problem.
<snip>
But surely Pape and his team of University of Chicago researchers are wrong. Surely other security experts disagree, right?
No.
The top security experts - conservative hawks and liberal doves alike - agree that waging war in the Middle East weakens national security and creates increases terrorism. See this, this, this, this, this and this.
As one of the top counter-terrorism experts (the former number 2 counter-terrorism expert at the State Department) told me, starting wars against states which do not pose an imminent threat to America's national security increases the threat of terrorism because:
One of the principal causes of terrorism is injuries to people and families.(Take another look at the painting above).
And its not only war in general as an abstract concept. The methods we're using to wage war are increasing terrorism.
SOURCE
"Methods" that for the most part sane level headed conservatives before the rise of the neocons would have never accepted.
This little bit of truth is the last thing the neocons and their faithful followers want us to learn as it's the cornerstone of their argument to keep on invading and occupying muslim countries in the name of "fighting terrorism". If nothing else I hope this one truth finally comes out and takes root. -
Right.
Who were we occupying 9-11-01? -
From the NYT
Real surprise, huh? -
www.fff.org/comment/com0501i.asp -
Who were we occupying on 9-11-01? -
The United States has been meddling in the affairs of Middle Eastern countries for decades. There doesn't have to be a straight forward military occupation taking place in order to suffer blowback.
-
Back to the subject.
The entire point of the article was that our "occupations" caused all the terrorism.
I ask again:
Who were we occupying on 9-11-01?
Please don't restate your opinion that we were the cause of 911. I think we all got that one, as disgusting as it is. -
I want to try those responsible and bring them to justice. -
We create our own enemies? All the time? Interesting statement.
So anytime we do anything another country doesn't like, we are responsible for making them our enemy?
That means, let's see, We made Germany and Japan our enemies. Makes sense. Doesn't matter much who struck first does it? We asked for it and we got it, just like 911.
:BangHead: Simplistic viewpoint. But, hey! If it makes you happy...
But, I think I'll take a more reasonable viewpoint. -
Bin Laden didn't issue fatwahs for the killing of Russians as he did for the Americans. Where's the blowback? Evidently he knew better than to attack Russia with jetliners. He considered the US an easy target:
"The extent of your impotence and weaknesses has become very clear...When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature they will like the strong horse.” -
If the princple is valid in one situation then it should be equally valid in another set of circumstances.
For instance when talking about a person who is bigoted against Muslims would you say that Muslims created their own enemies when they flew the planes into the World Trade Center? So it's their own fault? -

I call hogwash. Jefferson sent the U.S.S. Constitution to battle the Barbary Muslims. That was before 1953.
