It would be a good idea to build a double wall 50 feet high on the Mexican border. Then, after the border is sealed off, start rounding up illegal immigrants and ship them out! If they get caught in the US again, put them in federal prison for five years, and then ship them out again.
For the dreamers we need a simple solution. Ship them out and then let them apply for US citizenship. Give them extra points for knowing English and knowledge of American culture.

Since the US started keeping a door between the passengers and the cockpit (physical barrier) like Israel uses, you haven't seen more planes taken over either. You do get undie bomb/shoe bomb attempts, but for the most part they have failed. Nope, not seeing that you can go wrong with a physical wall at all. The Iron curtain was only a few feet tall, but the electrical fence managed to keep people in quite amazingly.
Reminds me of an Reagan post, if I can find it...
"[H]e was not the accused standing in a dock and I was not a prosecutor, and that I had no right to bring up domestic matters of the Soviet Union. In fact, he said, a proposal then current in Washington D.C. to buld a fence along the Mexican border was as bad as anything the Soviets had ever done.
I replied that the fence was meant to stop illegal immigration by people who wanted to join our society because it offered democratic and economic opportunities--that was hardly the same thing as building the Berlin Wall, which imprisoned people in a social system they didn't want to be part of." An American Life ------Ronald Reagan
And since I am at it, another Reagan quote.....
"There was the security of our borders to think about, and the questions of our economy's ability to absorb an endless flow of refugees: If Communism prevailed in Latin America, it would end any hope of achieving the social and economic progress needed to bring prosperity to the region; and this would accellerate the flow of illegal immigrants who, propelled by poverty, were already overwhelming welfare agencies and schools in some parts of our nation." An American Life p. 473. ------Ronald Reagan -
Sorry, not the same. The Commies buit theirs to keep people in, we want one to keep people out. Walls are working quite nicely in Israel and Hungary and a wall would work just as well here. -
"A state-based visa program would direct immigration to the states that want it without forcing much additional immigration on those that do not. Unlike existing employment-based visas that tie foreign workers to one firm, state-based visa holders would be free to move between employers in the state—leading to thicker, more equitable, and more efficient local labor markets. A state based visa would increase prosperity by allowing additional migration to portions of the country and economy that demand them. Successful international experiences with regional visas in Australia and Canada provide some valuable policy lessons and hint at the major economic benefits of such a policy in the United States."

Highly disagree, those entering Ellis Island were applying for entrance though the sheepfold (correct way), not jumping the wall. Big Big Big difference and you know it.
The poem which was not originally there (added later in 1903, years after the authors death) is often only partially quoted by leftist.... a very important part above their quote is left out.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips.
Keep America what ? Ancient lands (America)... Your "Storied Pomp!" ... what does that mean?
Storied: 1. Celebrated or famous in history or story
Pomp: 1. Dignified or magnificent display; splendor:
That message to me is directed towards the immigrants, to KEEP means to preserve in this instance. To keep the American way, which was liberty and freedom. Not to circumvent such and try to change it to what the rest of the world was. But that we had something special and the legal immigrants that we choose to allow in were to respect that (Storied Pomp). Not to try to change it, not to spit at it, not to break rules to get in other ways.
Ellis Island wasn't even an immigration center until 1892. The Statue of Liberty real title is "The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World"... Nowhere do I see "Force take my hurdled privileged poor commie masses that wear Che shirts that don't respect our Christian ways and laws". Being when the half done statue was offered to the US from France it was correctly identified as a symbol of friendship between the United States and France. Nothing else. That was all it was (a symbol of friendship), and the US paid a lot of money to finish it because France was broke and could not afford to complete it. When the statue was opened to the public 1886 it was not a immigration center yet. There was no plaque of which you speak. Immigrants entered the US at several cities other than New York.
TL/DR version... not buying the Statue of Liberty attempts to legitimize illegal immigration. That little Jewish lady's poem added years later does not change the original meaning of the statue or that we are a nation of rules that include defending us from foreign invaders. Also it has nothing whatsoever to do with what the founding fathers believed. -

The US doesn't need more people right now. We don't need immigration. In the 1700s and 1800s, and even into the 1900s we benefited from immigration. But things have changed.

1. No one is demanding all immigration stop completely.
2. The wall only prevents that which is illegal.
3. Our country's founding never let anyone come in undocumented.
4. Assimilation has always been part of our immigration policies.
We need facts to make these decisions not left wing hysteria. -

How does the wall prevent legal immigration?
Name a founding person of this country who called to allow illegal immigration? -
AwesomeMachine Member
The founding fathers permitted immigration from Western Europe.

I think the US should allow immigrants from Western Europe, but not Mexico.
