They have stood up a over 130 battalions, and all the recent fighting has been led primarily by the Iraq army. Coaltion troops are in a secondary role at this point. Sure, there will be suicide bombings for some years to come. But Iraq troops are now dealing with it themselves.
And hence my comment above that we forced A-Q to fight in his own back yard. About 10% of A-Q in Iraq were foreigners, including the leadership, with local misfits enlisted to do the dirty work. They have thrown alot of resources into this fight and had much of it chewed up.
Yes I know that southern Iraq is predominantly Shia. Shia militias controlled the port city Basra, among others, and they no longer hold it due to the central government's offensive there. If they regroup they will not have popular support at this time.
Those that feel they were deceived and lied to concerning Iraq either weren't paying attention or were willing to hear only what they wanted to hear and manipulated themselves.
Your statement illustrates that you have no idea what a "quagmire" is.
It's just a code word you picked up from liberal anti-war talking points.
Your refusal to acknowledge progress of any kind in Iraq tells us that you are willing it to be a "quagmire" and are disappointed that it's not turning out that way.
There is an end in sight for those not as willfully blind as you.
 <--- This is me laughing at you. You really do look foolish.
From Dictionary.com:
There is no end in sight. We are no closer to getting out of Iraq than we were two years ago. There would be complete and total anarchy if we left in the forseeable future. That is a fact, carpro, and it does not require your acknowledgement to be a fact. That, by definition, IS a quagmire.
And thank you for interjecting yet another of Rush's talking points: that Liberals want to see us fail in Iraq. I guess it's a coincidence that you would give us yet another of his talking points. Are you sure you don't listen to him? You just won't answer that question, will you?
We are still going to be in Iraq for quite a while.
They weren't there before we invaded.
Do you really think that a predominantly Shia population will rise up against other Shiites?
Do you understand that these people are the true believers in Shia Islam?
Possibly. It depends on what the next administration does and what the Iraq government wants to do. At any rate, it will be on a much smaller scale, and in a supporting role. The surge troops have already returned home btw.
We know.
Shia comments on the recent government crackdown:
"I am very happy about the situation right now. The deployment of the Iraqi army has made gunmen and gangsters disappear from the streets."
"The gangs were controlling the ports and smuggling oil. Now the ports are back in government hands. Everything in Basra is better than before."
"We feel secure. Assassinations have ended, organized crime is finished and armed groups are no longer on the streets."
"People are fed up with them [the Shia militias] because of their extremism and the problems they are causing."
