In May, 1944, the USS England(Named for John England, a sailor killed at Pearl Harbor), a destroyer escort converted to anti-submarine duties, sank six Japanese subbies in 12 days, a record which may never be broken. The Japanese had a bad habit of deploying subby squadrons in picket lines, making it easy for an enemy to roll it up by simply finding the next unit in line. That's what the England did.
The ship was attacked by 3 kamikazes in May 1945. She shot one down, which still managed to hit her squarely. She was towed to Philadelphia for repairs, but the end of the war halted the project, & sadly, she was sold for scrap in Nov. 1946.
