It has been suggested by my Pastor and a couple of others at church that I add a Video of the Pastor's message to our church website.
If I do this I see two options.
1. Have the file avaiable for download.
or
2. Have streaming Video.
If we do this I will have to increase my hosting plan for more disk space and bandwith, either with my current host (minihost.org) or get a new plan with someone else.
How hard is it to set up streaming video? What do I need to get streaming video set up? Basicly I know nothing about streaming video beyond the fact that I have watched it.
Thanks.....Bill

If you are on a tight budget, I would use a video host like youtube and just embed it on your site.
-
Upload to youtube, and embed the video on your site with the code youtube provides.
-
If it is uploaded to youtube. I assume that means it is stored on youtubes server and the bandwidth would be youtubes and not from our site, or does the embeding make it my bandwith?

I believe it is youtube's bandwidth..
Check out our church's website... at the bottom of the home page I have a youtube video embedded, and it isn't increasing my bandwidth usage. -
Only problem with you tube is there are very immoral things on that site and if you embedded in your site, although you will only have your pastors message, because it is a free site they will have a link back to you tube where just about anything can be seen.
It really is not something a church website should be promoting.
I would go with the streaming video if that is your only option.
Something to think about. -
what about God tube then.. or one of the other Christian alternatives like Jesus Clips?

True streaming requires server-side streaming software. It's usually pretty demanding on a server if there's a lot of people viewing, so that's why most hosts don't offer streaming solutions.
If you let me know the type of streaming that you prefer (has to be linux friendly), I can look into installing it and configuring it on the server if you would like. -
Thanks Brother.
We are a long way from being ready to do any of it yet, so it will be awile before we decide what we are doing. I plan on doing this in baby steps, since I really don't know what I am doing.
