I think that in writing that Dr. C was abandoning everything he ever stood for. That statement indicates to me that in his old age he disavowed the biblical worldview that he worked for six decades to instill in his congregations in Oklahom and Dallas.
Or...he was stating that it helps to contextualize the gospel. Which, come to think of it, is what missionaries do. -

I work with a guy that thinks that he is a sinner, but he is hoping like most people that God grades on a curve and that He will accept him like he is.
I gave him the Gospel and some tracts a few years ago and I pray for him nightly. I guess since he is starting to worry about it that the prayers are working.
I have another tract for him the next time I work with him. He is retired and only works part time.

He's toast. But he should still have the tracts that I gave him, but he rejected the truth before. -
