The AARP would crucify any politician who had the temerity to suggest that the elderly be required to do forced labor. Unfortunately, the young lack that kind of power.

Personally, I see forced labor as slavery regardless of "patriotic" intentions. If the draft were to be reinstated for anyone, I would have to believe that some sort of violent resistance would be morally justifiable at that point. For the record, I never had a problem with Clinton skipping town for Canada. Still didn't vote for him, but it had nothing to do with that.

He enrolled in ROTC to get a fraudulent deferrment with no intention of attending the required meetings.

He then went to England on a Rhodes scolarship to sit out the rest of the war.
