Received the following from Dr. Jerry Falwell:
Priority Compu-Gram:
NOTE OF SUPPORT TO PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH
Dear President Bush,
Traditional marriage in America is under savage attack from radical homosexuals, activist judges and the liberal national media.
I appreciate the strong stand you have taken in defense of traditional marriage and the family, and I join Dr. Jerry Falwell in encouraging your support of the immediate passage of the FEDERAL MARRIAGE AMENDMENT in Congress.
Mr. President, you have my support and prayers.
Sincerely,________________________
Dallas Eaton II
signed also by Dr. Jerry Falwell.
Here is my difficulty with this:
I appreciate the strong stand you have taken in defense of traditional marriage and the family
How is supporting civil unions as distinct from marriage a strong stand ?
Any comments?
Bro. Dallas Eaton, II
On the same page there is a petition to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert.

Well...a skunk by any other name still stinks! Yes, the Prez supports "civil unions", so long as someone else has to deal with it! God won't support sodomite 'marriage' or "civil unions" in any form, for any reason. Civil unions are sneaky & the devil will certainly slip them in unawares.
Falwell and Bush both need to repent. Not that I ever had respect for the latter, after hearing he had bowed in a shinto shrine, there's no longer reason to believe he's "christian". And Falwell chose his fate when he hooked-up with the apostate PTL Club & has been on a downhill slide ever since. -
Bro. Dallas: I am moving this to the General Baptist Forum.
I think you will get a much better discussion going there as this forum is mostly for 'light' subjects.
Thanks,

Ok, let's draw a dotted line, - - - - - - - -hows that? no gaps down here

Lets say I'm a widower in my late 50's, and I have a sibling who is as well. We decide to pool our resources and buy a house together. A civil union allows the two of us to live together as a family unit with community property, plus it may have the benefit of allowing me to put my sibling on my insurance, not to mention tax benefits. With current laws, this is impossible. Currently, there are several million siblings or other family members who are living together (nonsexually) as a family unit. -

Why John? Can believers be partakers of idolatry?
"Whoever confesses me before men, I will confess before my Father. Whoever denies me before men, I will deny before my Father and his holy angels."
What fundamentalist said this? -
I didn't say [Falwell] was the "latter"...

BTW, Sorry, granny, I got latter and former mixed up. I guess I've opened a can o' worms.
To GB defense, just this weekend, I saw an interview with him on the History Channel where he stated that he relied upon God and the saving grace of Christ Jesus. Based on that, I have to accept that GB 1 is, in the very least, saved. As far as GWB, I've heard him say on more than one occaision that he has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, so I gotta accept the same about him. Now, producing fruit is a differet issue... -

You know the context of 'civil union' in this issue is not supposing elderly or even young siblings co-habiting in a non-sexual relationship. You know this...you can say you don't, but I believe you are a well informed person able to make the connection.

The civil union is just that, a private contract between two persons. This one of those things where I take the side of big brother getting out of the big government business. While I don't favor the homosexuality marriage inference of civil unions, I do think that any two adults should be allowed to adhere to enter into such a private contract if they so wish. Marriage, otoh, that's a different story.

Thanks Brother JohnV for your honesty. I am not trying to just be hard on this. The two of us know this is not the extent of that political term 'civil union'.
If it were as you say, isn't this possible already?
I mean for siblings, etc. to enter into such a contract? Maybe not. I am just saying that this is merely a play on words to sound strong to Christians while playing to worldliness at the same time.
I never thought you would support same sex marriage btw.
I saw on tv the other night a 'christian' homosexual group claiming that mainstream christians and churches not fellowshipping and accepting homosexuals do not have the love of God in them.
Now, who is calling good evil and evil good?
We can't just call this one a movie and shrugg it off.
Well, I hope when it is outlawed to preach against homosexual lifestyles as a form of sin no less than any other sin against one's own flesh, that they will at least give me an internet outlet in my cell. I do enjoy visiting the BB.

Bro. Dallas, that would actually be pretty neat...to be in jail with all Christians. :) It'd be like church camp for years, and years, and years,........I'm already tired of it. ;)
BTW, if these people want these things, then why don't they just sign their "spouse" as their power of attorney? Could they both do that? Where's CalvinG? Isn't he a lawyer?
If not that, then they might actually form a corporation with each other.
BTW, Bro. Dallas, I do know of two elderly people who are twins, brother and sister, and neither has ever married. They have always lived together. She actually used to be Postmaster General for Houston. -
I know of two different sets of brothers who have lived the same way, staying on the family farm and never marrying. Just working and really not even spending for more than they need.
One of these two, after the one brother died, my brother and myself raised the tobacco crop for the other...my brother and me...we did get married...only not to each other :D
Both are passed away now. The other set of brothers are still living and still farming every day of their lives.
As for me, well, I married my wife and I love her .
