Imagine what it would be like if people took Jesus seriously in a good way with the same zeal the kooks have without knowledge.

The Norman Transcript put the announcement of the Funeral
meeting on page 1; Phelps was not mentioned.
The Norman Transcript put the 'after play' of the Funeral
meeting on page 1; The Phelps were regulated to page 5.

I'm sorry to get so heated about these people. They sure know how to push people's buttons, and they have pushed mine. Their actions are soo outrageous, it just makes my blood boil. I worry they will grow and spread across the U.S., and gain followers. I just never want to see that happen. But, learning from this thread, and all who have contributed, I will be prepared to rein my emotions in, maybe organize a peaceful protest. The Amish (I think) practice something called a "shunning", when everyone turns their backs simutaniously to the offender. I was hoping the Baptists could organize the same sort of thing, a country wide shunning. Sadly, I see this will probably never happen. And we can accomplish great things in the Lord's name IF we would get together. But I will continue to spot those who use the Lord's name for their evil works, and look them straight in the eye. I hope others will have the courage to do the same when the opportunity arises. I know you have all tried to get me to look the other way, but I can't do that, not yet anyway. That's the last I have to say on this subject.

    Love,
    and peace, too,

    Sopranette

Doesn't shun mean to ignore? Isn't that what most here advocated.

It is one family - thats all. If we'd quit making such a fuss they would go away.

I really appreciate your righteous anger and heart, Sporanette. That's something that doesn't come from the flesh. Believe you me, I feel the same way when I hear a shirley Phelp interview, or see one of their protests. With them, you can do a lot more by praying for them and those they come in contact with, than standing toe to toe with them.

I wouldn't worry about them growing. Their "church" has around 50 members, with over 30 of them being family.

The only way they'll grow is to inbreed...
Even then, their gene pool would be so messed up in a couple generations, they will die out.

God is stronger than any protest... He will take care of his church...
Remember the gates of Hell can't prevail.

So that means that Satan's ministers of hate like phelps, are doomed.
When the Sago mine tragedy took place a couple years ago, they protested one of my friend's funeral. He was a God fearing man, deacon at a local Baptist church, and great Christian... but the phelps idiots said he went to hell....

It wouldn't have done any good to argue with them... seeing they are blind.

I think this has happened. They are not in fellowship with any other church.

Neither -- I just wanted so badly to make some smart comment about the inbreeding thing, but it would not have brought glory to God, so I refrained from my wicked ways ;)

I can't imagine ever shunning you Tim

Actualy it is a Daughter-in-law of the founding Phelps who
is running the demonstrations now. The Son of the founding
Phelps has been kicked out of the church for conduct
    un-becoming a Phelps.

Recuitment by marrage is high, there are several
dozen grandchildren who have been getting kicks
demonstrating since they were 5 or 6 years old.

I believe taking a minor (under 18-years old) to
a street corner and having them sing evil songs or
shout evil slogans or dispaly evel words or display
evil pictures - all should be banned. It is NOT freedom of
speech for a minor to make a fool of themselves.
Of course, adults should feel free to make a fool of
themselves anytime/anywhere they want (that is legal).

Caveat: Nothing I say abbrogates the right of people
who built or legally use a building to dictate what is
    said in it.

There is word out there that Westboro/Phelps will demonstrate at the funerals of the Virginia Tech victims. An unimaginable breach of taste and compassion! I am disgusted that the name of "Baptist" can be so terribly misused. Much of the public does not understand that these people in no way represent the views and attitudes of Baptists in general, or that they are not connected with any responsible Baptist association.
