The State of Jones [Telling how burtal it was on the home front]

No romantic picture of the Civil War in this book, just the hard, bloody, hard riding, hard fighting and the misery on the home front in Mississippi is written about.

Growing up in the Shenandoah Valley I've been a Civil War buff since I was a kid. I heard stories about the war from elderly folk and some were pretty touch stories. But not like those related in this book.

Good start so far this year, 2011.

    1. Chasing the Devil ... the story of the hunt and final capture of the Green River Killer.

    2. Sole Survivor ... the true story of Poon Lim, a second steward and the only survivor of the British ship Benlomond, which was torpedoed on November 23, 1942 off the coast of South America. McCunn beautifully recounts Lim's 133 days of survival on a wooden raft--the longest recorded survival story in modern history.

    3. What One Man Said to Another ... a wonderful book of conversations between Richard Selzer and the author, Peter Josyph.

    4. The Assassination of Dietrich Heyrinch. Heydrinch. Heydrinch was known as the Butcher of Prague. He was truly evil. There is an excellent display of the event in the catacombs of the Cyril and Methodius Orthodox church in Prague where the assassins hide and committed suicide rather than let the Gestapo capture them.

I finish reading around 2 books a week, sometimes more but rarely less.

Since the New Year, the following books are what I am reading or have read

Introducing Covenant Theology by Michael Horton
Arminianism: Myth and Realities (though this may have been finished before the New Year) by Roger Olson
Legacy of Sovereign Joy: God's Triumphant Grace in the Lives of Augustine, Luther and Calvin by John Piper
In Christ Alone: Living the Gospel Centered Life by Sinclair Ferguson
Living for God's Glory: An Introduction to Calvinism by Joel Beeke
Sabbath in Puritan New England by Alice Morse Earle
The Duties of Parents by J.C. Ryle (Current)
Genesis Beginnings and Blessing by Kent R. Hughes (current)
Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health by Donald Whitney (current)
    John Owen on Justification

I highlight interesting passages as I am reading them and post a few of them on my twitter and facebook accounts.

I am also reading through the Bible... I am in the book of Revelation right now.

I love to read and believe every Christian should be constantly reading
