The college you desire to attend should have a recommended list. If you attend a secular college and get involved in a good parachurch organization often that is enough. I met with some mission boards years ago and they required nothing more from me that what I had already had from the parachruch organization. The real point is can you make disciples. Depending on the type of mission work you intend to do will require different preparation. If you plan to pastor a church plant, the mission board will usually require some basic theology courses and some kind of proof of preparedness before they will even accept you.

Read the Bible daily. Immerse yourself in it.
Another good book that you might check out would be "And the Word Came With Power: How God Met and Changed a People Forever" by Joanne Shettler (who was a missionary to the phillipines).

Also another that I read is The Debate Strategies of Jesus Christ at www.ageslibrary.com. It can only be downloaded online. -
When you find a good missions minded college with a degree designed for missionaries they will have a list of required core missions classes that you will have to take. Right now you should study your Bible daily, pray, talk to your Pastor and get him to help find a Missionary mentor for you, study your Bible more, pray more, start investigating missions minded colleges, study your Bible even more and pray even more.
Southeastern College at Wake Forest (shares the campus with Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary) is currently developing a college missions degree. It will be a 2 + 3 program. Students will spend two years here on campus conducting classroom studies and then spend three years on the mission field working with experienced church-planting SBC International Mission Board Missionaries (and completing course work). I highly recommend you contact Southeastern and talk to the admissions office about this new degree program. Check out the website at: SECWF link. -
Southwestern already has a World Missions center and degree program. From what I hear, it is quite good. Perhaps, you might want to check it out. It is in Fort Worth, Texas.
