In Miami ....
We don't have Democratic mayor either. It is a non-partisan race. So that's a bit deceiving to put Miami in there, don't you think?
The major reason for poverty in Miami is due to high percentage of recent immigrants. Some are legal, some are not. Most come with only the shirt on their backs. And while most come with a very strong work ethic, some do not have marketable skills and some have language issues. And it takes a while to adjust to a new city, a new culture, etc.
As immigrants move up the economic chain, typically they do not remain in the city. Affordable housing - especially in the city - is a major issue, so they move to the 'burbs outside the city limits. So they are never counted once they are no longer "poor."
BTW if Miami had a partisan race, the mayor most likely would be Republican. -
It's hard to believe NYC isn't in the top 10 with a Republican mayor. What about LA or Chicago? -

A Google of this: "Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican Mayor" has 484 hits. It is really hard to see who started it.

I certainly have no statistics, but as I drive around Washington and occasionally get to other cities, e.g. Baltimore, I wonder whether they all have in common a proliferation of churches, most of them Baptist!
It is frightening indeed to think that we have churches on every corner, just about, hundreds of them ... but apparently so little effect on public behavior. -
I never base my lifestyle decisions on the opinions (not facts) of Glen Beck. I do however, listen to him from time to time. BTW, the Obama newsletter I'm getting is pushing for fighting fire with fire, tit for tat, and eye for eye over the McClain camp. I see dirty infighting coming.
