Baucus Plan Allows for Fines Up to $3,800 for Failing to Get Health Insurance

Families who fail to get health insurance could be fined up to $3,800 under a health care reform plan proposed by a top Senate negotiator.*

Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., who as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee is leading talks among the "Gang of Six" senators to hammer out a bipartisan compromise, offered what he described on Tuesday as a "framework" and not a "final product."*

<snip>

The plan would provide tax credits to help small employers and help cover the cost for households making up to three times the federal poverty level. That's about $66,000 for a family of four, and $32,000 for an individual.

Those who still don't sign up would face hefty fines, starting at $750 a year for individuals and $1,500 for families -- for those making up to three times the poverty level.*

For those who make more than that, the penalty on individuals would jump to $950 and the penalty on families would jump to $3,800.

Where does Congress get the Constitutional authority to force people to buy Medical insurance or be fined? This provides just one more opportunity for power grab by the Marxists in this country

They take it and we sit idly by. Fortunately some states are taking the bull by the horns and sitting it back on its rear!

and it starts with each one of us!

A. Vote - no excuses accepted.

B. Encourage others to vote and tell them why you are voting for the person you have chosen.

C. . Get involved with a political party - become an officer if possible

D. Run someones campaign

E. Run for office yourself
Out of 435 congressman, I would say that over will 50 be unopposed. Why - because, the opposition has determined it is a lost seat and will not spend any money. Well run anyways! At least give voters a chance.

F. Attend School board, village, town, city, and county meetings.

G. Attend political forums - get to know our politicians - personally

H. Write letters to the editor

I. Call your local talk shows - (its nearly impossible to talk to Rush, Glenn, Sean...)

J. Host your own local talk show. Many Christian stations will sell you air time at a reasonable cost - and then get some sponsors

K. Write out your platform
Here is mine for city council

L. now you add someting....

The constitution was certainly ignored with the passage of the Patriot Acts under GW Bush but I believe President Obama can reverse the damage.

The difference is that the PA had a sunset clause in it. Something that most laws should have!

and while BO is at it, will he stop those silly "take off your shoes, limt of 3 very small bottles, no water bottles, and ect stupid rules for air travel.

There would be a few exemptions, including for Native Americans and for those making incomes below the federal poverty level.

The plan does not include a government-run health insurance plan to soften the blow of the coverage mandate.

Instead, Baucus opts for a system of non-profit cooperatives, as part of a broader health insurance exchange.

As a way to pay for the package, estimated to cost under $900 billion over 10 years, Baucus is proposing a 35 percent excise tax on insurance companies for high-cost plans -- defined as those above $8,000 for individuals and $21,000 for family plans.

People below the poverty level will be exempt. So if you don't work, you will be exempt from this fine.

But notice to pay for the plan they plan to charge insurance companies a 35 perecent exise tax.

Hmmm.... wonder how the insurance companies will make that up?

Look for you health plan at work to go WAY UP very soon.

Yeah? So when is going to start?

So far all he's done is to make sure Bush's policies continue.

Face it alatide, they seen ya coming and saddled up a lame horse for ya and you bought it.

After a disaster like Bush we can only hope and pray for better leadership.

And did we get it in Obama?

Tell how "the one" has been any different than Bush - other than bigger deficits?

I agree Obama is the "one". He is the "one" chosen by the Marxist Billionaires Club, headed by Soros, to lead this country into bankruptcy.

I worship the Living God not some politician. You might want to re-examine your faith.

targus asked you a simple enough question why not just answer it instead of questioning his faith?

Bro Curtis said, "And Alatide, you ignore over & over the Clinton administration gave us the patriot act."

Why do you keep ignoring this?

Nothing happened to the Constitution. Congress merely initiates and implments

Section 8 - Powers of Congress

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Providing for a minimum universal health plan is good for the general welfare of the United States.
