If you would read my post carefully, I didn't say the middle class was on the verge of poverty. You are putting words in my mouth.

What I said is the minimum tax rate doesn't apply to the middle class. People receiving the minimum tax rate are close to living in poverty and shouldn't have to pay any tax at all in my opinion.

 

Want to know how we pay for tax cuts? You guessed it, we borrow. You see tax cuts increase the deficit which means we must borrow more to make up the difference. Tax cuts are how Bush turned a surplus into a deficit.

IOW, fiscally irresponsible is how government has run to include under Reagan. The only recent president who wasn't fiscally irresponsible was Clinton by your measuring stick.

Do you know anyone who is middle class and paying the minimum tax rate?

In addition, you keep forgetting that Reagan was forced to combat a dangerous enemy with an emasculated military. When our country's survival is at stake from an enemy attack, spending can be necessary. And no...Reagan didn't bat a thousand. But he sure didn't send us on the road to fascism.
