Su Wei: //I'm a "lay" believer. Don't hoodwink me...//
I'm a 'lay' believer. I shot straight from the hip. :wavey:
Su Wei: //And if we were to follow your line of argument, who (and what were their savlation testimonies) were the witnesses who affirmed the NIV ?//
That isn't following my 'line of argument'.
My like of argument is that EARLY GREEK NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES are witnesses.
More than one witness is required.
If I today am to have more than one witness to the Written Word of God
in English, I must use more than one English Translation.
The original KJV, the KJV1611 Edition (an many other KJVs, I might add)
had footnotes that show the Received Text contained MULTIPLE WITNESSES.

2Co 13:1 (KJV1611 Edition):
This is the third time I am comming to you: in the mouth of two
or three witnesses shal euery word be established.
Ed Edwards: //IMHO this Command of the LORD is especially true concerning
the Bible, God's Holy Written Word (Rhema). Yes, here 'word'
is translated from the Greek (rhema), so it is talking about
Bible, God's Holy Written Word.//
I tell it like it is, really & truly. (i'm a straight shooter)
Su Wei: //that would be taking 2cor 13:1 out of context. This verse is not about deciding what is God breathed word that is to be accepted as Holy Scripture!!!//
I respectfully disagree with you. I've exactly and truly
explained what this verse says.
However, I am very willing to relate how some will
try to trick the 'lay' believer.
1. There are multiple KJV witnesses.
KJV is properly said KJVs.
I have the following in paper:
A. KJV1611 Edition (with translator footnotes)
B. KJV1769 Edition
C. KJV1873 Edition (with translator footnotes)
2. There are multiple Received Text witnesses.
In other words, the TR is plural.
3. The Translator Footnotes are NOT causers of doubt
but document the Truth. There are multiple original
language witness to Bible truths - in fact, over 5,000
witnesses from the first Millinnium of the Church Age alone.
4. Etc. -

Su Wei: //you are telling me that 2cor13:1 is talking about
how the cannon of scripture is decided?//
No. on several levels:
1. according to dictionary.com:
CANNON = 1. A large mounted weapon that fires heavy
projectiles. Cannon include guns, howitzers, and mortars
let us talk about:
CANON - 4 The books of the Bible officially accepted
as Holy Scripture.
2. The current canon of scripture was decided
at the Church Council in 325AD in Nice (also known as
the Nicean Church Council).
3. What I'm talking about:
it is good when you
study the scripture to use MULITPLE VERSIONS (witnesses).
The Holy Spirit can reveal more to you than is contained in
either one of the two.
Witness #1:
2 Cor 12:19B (KJV1611 Editon):
... wee speake before God in Christ:
wee doe all things, dearely beloued, for your edifying.
Witness #2:
2 Cor 12:19B (HCSB = Christian Standard Bible /Holman, 2003/ ):
No, in the sight of God we are speaking in Christ,
and everything, dear friends, is for building you up.
