I am really suprised the KJV has gotten 3 votes. I quess the reasoning would be because of it's archaic language.(Can't we have a little more respect for a legend though :( ) Im not suprised that the TNIV, CEV and The Message have gotten so many votes. The real suprise to me is that the NRSV has gotten no votes. I remember when the RSV was viewed by many Conservatives as the "satanic" Bible  I am also a little suprised the NIV has gotten no votes.
The TNLT I don't like because it is so loose translation though the Message I understand is horrible.

Chris,
You're right. The KJV was a masterpiece, but during its time. The archaic language and its utilization of the poorer family of mss makes it no longer the best, but it's still not the worst translation available. I too am surprised that the NIV hasn't gotten any votes. Maybe the TNIV's appearance has taken those votes away. -

We recently did a study of the many translations in church and it opened my eyes a lot.
One of KJV biggest complaint is many view it as too archaic and outdated. From what I understand and I could be wrong is that the KJV only has a handful of archaic words. I was thinking the number was really low like a dozen or so. Most of the complaints are not valid IMO. -

From what I have been able to determine, more souls have been saved as a result of preaching from the KJV than almost all other versions combined. I am not a KJV only person, but how can you consider a translation the worst with this kind of a track record????
-
You are absolutely right; the KJV is most definitely not the worst translation. At least, not the 1873 Scrivener revision, anyway. I love it.
Maybe the worst Bible translation is the "Wicked KJV." The "Wicked KJV" is the 1631 edition, which says in Exodus 20:14, "Thou shalt commit adultery."
Currently, in my Bible Versions Poll for BEST one, the "Wicked KJV" is tied with the CEV and the RSV, with 6% of the vote. The NASB leads with 13%, and the ESV, NLT and NKJV are tied for second, with 10%.
The URL to the poll is http://www.bibletranslation.ws/poll.html

Amen, Brother Joey Gowdy! I voted other. Here is my personal opinion: If it aint the KJV, it ain't gonna be read be me!
Now you may argue with me, say whatever, but since you asked personal opinion, I just gave you mine. Read whatever version ya want, but It bothers me to read a diffrent version. I have seen some other "bibles" leave out verses and adds words to it, and you can see the reference in the last chapter of Revelation to see what God thinks about that.
And, I just can't understand what the NLT is saying.
In another "bible" debate, I gave many points as to why I stand as I do, and I am too tired to retype them.
But for the record, this is my veiw: The KJV is 100% acurate, infallable, unmovable, inerrent, and God-inspired from the first word in Genesis to "Amen" of Revelation. It is my rock and foundation, and nothing can change it.
Someone said it was "archaic" and out of date. Well, I'll just say this -I'm sure glad the salvation my Bible talks about isn't archaic and out dated, or I would still be a lost sinner.
I'm not saying you can't get saved by reading another version, but I simply gave my opinion.
Now I will, end my post and stay away from this discussion, because this is something I hold very dear to me, so therfore, I will say no more, but you know where I stand.
In our Saviour, Abby -

I'm glad you enjoy the KJV, but don't imply (I know you claim not to but your argument does) what you have claimed for the KJV is not true for the NASB, ESV, NIV and NKJV. ;) -
I voted for other... I could say the Joseph Smith Translation... but I wouldn't exactly call that a translation since I do not believe he actually looked at the original and translated anything. However, what I will say is the Good News Bible. I think it is horrible because too much is simply taken out and then replaced with junk. I remember there being verses with so and so begat so and so begat so and so... and none of that was in the Good News Bible. What's with that?

as for the Good News Bible, it didn't take any "begats" out. u'll find no begats to begin with in the Greek n Hebrew Bibles.
