then please show me where? I have quoted the Highest Authority, Jesus, in Luke 24:47, where He Commands that "repentance for the forgiveness of sins" is to be preached as part of the Gospel Message. Your argument is with Jesus, not me! And Peter obeyed this in Acts 2:37-38

Reread those who were present at Pentecost in Acts chapter 2 and you will see that there were not only Jewish people present. In Lukes Gospel the Commandment is for all believers

Not quite sure how the conversation shifted from cults to repentance, but @SavedByGrace and @Yeshua1 have good points. Maybe it depends on what is meant by the question "is repentance necessary for salvation?" If it means the sinner must first repent and stop sinning in order to be saved, I think the answer is "no". We are saved from our sins by trusting in Christ, not by ceasing from sin - which we really can't do this side of Heaven. On the other hand, repentance is necessary for salvation in the sense that we cannot be saved from God's judgment without turning from our sin. I believe that is the point of Acts 2:38.

I believe the point is that repentance is the result of salvation.

The Bible says that repentance is FOR forgiveness of sins and therefore has to come before salvation. Both Luke and Acts is very clear on this

Repenting of how many sins, and is repenting confessing them or forsaking them first?

Why are you trying to complicate things? When a sinner comes to Jesus they tell Him that they are sinners and sorry for all the sins they have ever committed. As the tax collector did "God be merciful to me a sinner". If the person is sincere they will be forgiven. It is that simple.

Are you saying that you disagree with the Reformed Confessions that I have quoted from on another thread?

Indeed, repentance is the effect of God having made us alive with Christ. (Ephesians 2:1-9)

The Holy Spirit Himself grants us repentance and faith, as neither are a work God expects us to do to get saved!

because this means that the sinners does not need to "repent" first, and "convistion" has been made equivalent with "salvation"
