What should be more important to the Christian?
• The protection of human blastocysts from stem cell research that may save human lives and cure diabetes, cancer, heart disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, and many other diseases?
Or
• Protecting the lives and limbs of our troops by giving them body armor and safe transportation vehicles?

Both. Kerry voted against protecting life and giving the troops body armour. He, once again, is on the wrong side of the life issue and of the war.
Joseph Botwinick -
Bush, on the other hand, pushed for a ban on Embryonic stem cell research and also pushed to give the troops the body armour with the 87 billion that Kerry voted for right before he voted against it.
Joseph Botwinick -
Actually, Bush limited federal funding for embryonic stem cell research to the existing lines. He did not ban such research with federal funds. And he has certainly not sought to ban private research using embryonic stem cell research.
Here are the President's remarks on the subject - www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2001/08/20010809-2.html -

Not to be harsh, but abortion has and will continue, while our troops aren't always in war. The majority of people do not see abortion as children in immediate danger, but they see the troops as such. If we spend more effort to help those the majority of people see as in immediate need, they will be more willing to listen to us on the abortion issue than if they see us spending time and effort on something they don't see as needed when their kids are fighting for us in a war.
Also, and correct me if I'm wrong, stem cell research does not REQUIRE the use of aborted children. Those same cells can be harvested by other means, such as through the umbilical cord, from spontaneous abortions, and the patients themselves, can't they?
Gina -
Well there you go, they can. So now there's no problem with stem cell research, nobody has to use aborted babies. Issue solved, now everyone's answer can be protect our soldiers. (ironically enough, if everyone did that there would be less demand for abortion)

Actually, the democrats tried to insert funding for body armor for our troops, and the republican majority tabled it.
We discussed this earlier, and I believe Joseph took part in the discussion.
Memory is the first thing to go, I guess.
"Democrats voted to increase funding for protective gear, including body armor. In an effort to address this problem, on October 2, 2003, Democrats supported an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2004 Supplemental Appropriations bill, introduced by Senator Dodd, that would have provided an additional $322 million for safety equipment, including body armor. Republicans united to defeat this amendment, tabling it by a 49-37 vote (Vote No. 376).
Democrats also strongly supported an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2003 Supplemental Appropriations bill, offered by Senator Landrieu, that would have appropriated $1.047 billion for National Guard and Reserve procurement. Despite the fact that National Guard and Reserve troops serving in Iraq are the most likely to lack appropriate body armor, Republicans tabled this amendment on April 2, 2003, in a 52-47 vote (Vote No. 116). Finally, during the course of last year's appropriations process, Senator Leahy successfully worked with his colleagues on the Appropriations Committee to add $220 million to the National Guard and Reserve discretionary equipment account." -
Bottom line is that Kerry voted for the 87 billion before he voted against it. He can run, but he cannot hide from his record.
Joseph Botwinick -
Yeah, sure, Kerry thinks our soldiers should not have the proper equipment.
I heard that he eats his neighbors, too. >wink wink.<
Give me a break. There are plenty of things wrong with Kerry's positions to pick from, without distorting the meaning of votes that he cast.
I guess the problem is that the things where he is truly errant pretty much match Bush's positions...and we can't have that, can we.
