What songs can a Calvinist teach to their children?

Certainly not, 'Jesus Loves Me, This I Know', 'Jesus Loves the Little Children', 'Do Lord', 'Father Abraham', etc. I was singing to the baby I keep today and it came to me that many of the songs I sing to him and with my Sunday School class tells the children that God loves them or they can have a home in Glory Land. How very sad this made me.... that you can't promise your child that Jesus died for them.

What songs or hymns are 'off limits'?

'Jesus loves the elected little children... All the elected children of the world. Red, brown, yellow, black and white... some are precious in His sight! Jesus loves the elected children of the world!'

whatever

Jesus loves me, this I know
He let me pick where I'll go
He could keep me out of Hell
But He loves me much too well

Why would Jesus loves the little children be off limits? There is nothing Arminian about it. "All the children of the world" is defined as being of every color, every race.

It would sadden me more to believe I would teach my child his salvation is ultimately up to him, not to a sovereign God of grace. To do so would be to deny the Holy Spirit.

Amen. I trust my Father to do what is right more than I trust my children to do what is right.

Once upon a time there was a "Tiny Tim".

And he sang a song; Tip Toe Through The TULIPS!

A "TULIP song" would be great!

Kinda like this;

T is for total depravity.....something found in mankind......

U is for unconditional election....it is God, proclaiming "thou art mine".....

L is for limited atonement....Jesus has purchase His own....

I for His grace irresistable.....who could resist the One on the throne....

P is His promise to keep us...with Him we are never alone!

Tulip, Tulip, sing the happy song....give praises to our Maker...for it is He that is worthy alone!

I just kind of thought of this off the top of my head.

I am sure I could find many other very good songs!

Regards, KJB

You know i really get sick of this lack of education. If some could get away with it, they would burn us or place us on a cross. This is really uncalled for and should be pulled. This shows little or better NO understanding of election from the Bible. How the board allows this, i'm unsure.

Diana...do you really think this is the case, or are you showing your hate for calvinist by making up such silly statements? Election is used by God and if you choose not to believe it, you must answer to God..not me. But for you to attack others in the way you just have is showing nothing but hate in your heart.

This is uncalled for..and i do not find funny.

I take back what I said about "typical of Arminian representations of Calvinism." That is a poor generalization. The OP, however, was pretty poor.

For God so loved the elect
He died for those he did select
His grace you can't resist
If your name is on his list
The word of God is clear
The saints shall persevere
T-U-L-I-P for me!

Dear Sister Diane,
You may sing whatever song you wish, the Bible certainly teaches that whosoever will believe, and Christ said that He would not turn away any.

Sovereign Grace is a very humbling truth.

May God Bless,

Honestly, I was just told Presbyterians cannot sing many songs from our church hymnal. A man was singing with a blended choir and was being teased by other choir members when he mentioned a number of hymns that are off limits due to Calvinistic teachings.

I've forgotten the one that he went on and on about...
'Just As I Am'? 'I Surrender All'? 'Almost Persuaded'? 'I Have Decided To Follow Jesus'? Can't recall...

I am saying this publicly as a moderator who if you will read my posts you will know I am staunch Sovereign Grace.

Therefore, I find no offense in the post, nor the topic thread. Diane has posted a valid topic of discussion.

There are songs that I view as arminian and others I view as calvinistic.

Please, know I am sympathetic of the charge that this is a representation of something offensive to Calvinists, however, I have decided to leave it.

This is the best opportunity for us to explain to any who wish to know honestly, that at the resurrection God's Sovereignty will be displayed and all who are Sovereignly elected and redeemed into His family will be in the full likeness of their redeemer, therefore, at that point, there is no longer a question of human ties, emotions, etc, only the will and purpose of God. And brothers and Sisters, that will and purpose is founded upon His eternal holiness, justice, righteousness and mercy. All at that time in Him will be Amen to His every purpose, did not Christ teach us to pray toward that end...thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Thus, there is no question for human thought, volition, nor emotion, all is immediately acted upon not from the humanistic tendency toward selfishness, but for the purpose of worship, glory and honor of the Eternal Living God.

May God Bless,
Bro. Dallas
