Just wanted to know what you guys thought about Wheaton College. I have never seen it mentioned on this board, I don't even know if people know what it is.

Wow...it kind of boggles my mind that someone could be a Christian for any length of time and NOT have heard of Wheaton College or know what it is. If nothing else, Wheaton is known as the alma mater of Jim Elliot, the famous missionary who was killed trying to bring the gospel to the Auca Indians in Ecuador, and his wife Elisabeth, a respected author and speaker!
Pure and simple genius, I can already tell you that you will get some negative comments about Wheaton. The school will be called "liberal" in its standards and even perhaps in its theology...I'm not familiar enough with it to say whether those criticisms are valid.
I can only go by looking at some of the products of the college. My husband has a first cousin who went to Wheaton, and he is a wonderful Christian young man. A few years ago, a Wheaton girl interned at our radio station, and she was also a shining example of young Christian womanhood.
Also, because of its academic excellence, Wheaton is often referred to as "the Harvard of Christian colleges."

My uncle, Dr. Kenneth Kantzer, was a Professor and Department Head at Wheaton prior to going to Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Wheaton is not "liberal" in the theological sense, but is very New Evangelical. That is not to say there are no Theological Liberals on the faculty, for there are, but the school itself is not Modernist but Evangelical.
35 years ago, in my search for a good christian college for my undergrad training, I ruled out Wheaton because of its openness to:<UL TYPE=SQUARE><LI>Eccumenical Evangelism (aka Billy Graham)<LI>Theistic Evolution<LI>Neo-Evangelicalism and willingness to discuss/embrace variety of theological position<LI>Post-Mill Eschatology[/list]Cannot imagine that it has gotten any "better" since 1960's . . .

I have never seen it involved with "Eccumenical Evangelism (aka Billy Graham)" but I haven't seen it not involved so I won't deny it exists. I am not sure what "Neo-Evangelicalism" really means so I can't touch that. As far as the other two though:
Theistic Evolution: You might find a biology professor or two who belives in Theistic Evolution, but that would be about it. I only heard the term used once my entire time there and it was quickly ruled out as a quack idea.
Post-Mill Eschatology: Wheaton College was certainly founded on a Post-Mill Eschatology in the 1860's but that's a thing of the way past. Wheaton is definietly predominatly pre-mill (at least among the students if not most of the faculty) with a-mill coming in second place.
