This is a subject that has several views, but only one can be right. As those who rightly divide the truth (not each other) we must be the ones that preach what is doctrinally straight. This is only my third time logged on, I hope to get to know some of you soon.
When did the N.T. church begin?

At Pentacost. Plain and simple. Acts 2
-
who were the 3,000 added to?

Welcome to the board J.T. Your third post is going to generate some difference of opinion. I refrained from posting first, most on here already know that I blieve in Acts 2 the church was already assembled.
I believe Christ established the church when he called out the Apostles from among those recieving the baptism of John.
If the church was not established prior to Acts 2 (pentecost) then there is no 'great commission' given to the church. That is plain and simple.
Bro. Dallas Eaton -
Bro. Eaton, I believe the Scriptures support that 100%.

I have to log off now, but I look forward to the study and discussion this subject will bring

Here is what you are getting at: 3,000 were added to the "church". We know that "church" means assembly. So, it is easy to say that 3,000 were added to the assembly of believers.
Your original question was about the N.T. church. The N.T. church is referred to as the body of Christ. The body of Christ began at Pentecost according to Peter in Acts 11. Paul referred to the baptism of the spirit in no less than 3 of his epistles (Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians).
No doubt you are a Landmarker, BBF, or Primitive, so this will be interesting. -

No Sir, I am a Baptist.
Also, if the church started at Pentacost, why do we go back before then to get our ordinances, church discipline, baptism...etc. -

1. Sorry about that, I know discipline isn't an ordinance, I didn't write my sentence too clearly. I was just trying to give a few examples
2. What does BTW mean? -
[/QUOTE][/qb]Landmark is a type of Baptist. BBF is the Baptist Bible Fellowship, and Primitive is also a type of Baptist.
I'm sorry for not clarifying, I am an Independant Baptist, not associated with any board or fellowship.......you guys are tough! -
BTW means, By The Way.
I too would like to know how Christ brought the unsaved to the ordinance of the Supper.
I too would like to know how we can know from scripture that the great commission was given to a body that was not in existence when it was spoken.
I too would like to know these things.
BTW, I am a landmark missionary Baptist.
1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Didn't the New Covenant go into effect on the day of Pentecost?
-
-
2. Where does it say that the commission was given to "the church"?
Btw, those problems are not problems at all. They pose no problem with my view.
The defining mark of the body of Christ is the baptism of the Spirit. Christ said that it would happen shortly after the ascension. That would be Pentecost. -
There had to be a body to receive the Baptism of the Spirit. Christ organized that body and that body received the Baptism of the Spirit on Pentecost.
Bro. Dallas -
So, how many baptisms are there.....2?
1 Spirit & 1 Water? -
The Spirit Baptism is only upon the church. Water baptism is administered to believers to bring them into the church.
