    I didnt even know there was more than one kind of Baptist until I joined this group! I was already firmly grounded in SBC, but didn't know the differences. 2 of my grandsons were Baptised in an IFB and now I like going there.

    patrioticcamerican, sorry for the delay, but I haven't visited this thread in over a week.

    Primitive Baptists first separated themselves, largely and officially, from Missionary Baptists in 1832- see The Black Rock Address

    Please also see Frequently Asked Questions about the Primitive Baptists to understand some more of our theological differences from most modern-day Baptist groups.

    Basically, I like to tell people, in a nutshell, think of the difference between you now and your grandparents or great-grandparents and you should get a pretty simple understanding of how a Southern Baptist church relates to a Primitive Baptist church. Primitives are all about simplicity and plainness.

    Grew up in a GARBC (General Association of Regular Baptist Churches) - but am now in independent Baptist!
