I think that if some stranger talked to 10 Christians about what God is like they would walk with ten different understandings. It is amazing how many who profess to know the Lord seem to know a different God between themselves.
Not long ago I sat in a church where the Pastor stood in the pulpit and proclaimed that he was glad that he was not under the God of the Old Testament today and many gave a big amen. I never went back to that church since I knew that did not have the God of the bible.
I have no doubt that many in the church have this same miss-guided understanding of God. The God of the Old testament was and is the Jesus of the New. There is absolutely no difference. Jesus said if you have seen Me you have seen the Father. He was not showing His Harsh side under the Old when He commanded children to be put to death and His great love and Mercy under the New when He told the woman taken in adultery "neither do I condemn you go and sin no more."
If a person cannot accept the ways of God in both the Old and New testaments then they have the wrong God. Unless we accept all of scripture about God and how and what He is we will miss out on the true and living God.
God is both merciful and just and if we are going to properly follow Him we also need to learn when, where, and how all of God must be applied without compromising anything of God as God never changes. To do anything less is to deny the God we claim to know.

Even salvation was different - as it was impossible to look upon the cross - and the name of Jesus was unknown - as that was in the future.
This might be a poor analogy, but suppose you father was the owner of the bakery (which you worked at) and he was also the coach of your little league baseball team.
Now at the bakery he might be a great person, but your life is extremely hard on the baseball diamond with him as your coach.
So you father might have different means of the way he accomplishes the two missions, but he is still the same father to you in both places.
I too am glad I did not live in the Old Testament times! Imagine there would be no Baptist Board! -

Moses brough to us the law of God, Jesus though brought us Grace of God!
Those under the Old Covenant of the law under an Inferior covenat, as that one did NOT estbablish a personal relationship with god, not forgivess of sins in absolute sense, nor had the person.power of the HS rresiding within OT believers!
So the SAME God in OT/NT, just thank god we today are under MUCH superior/better Covanent than ANY were under in the OT! -
Romans 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
This is in the context of Israel and the law of Moses and the grace offered to the Gentiles.
If you wish to live under the Law go right ahead FAL, but know this, if you fail in even one point you are a dead man.
There are 613 points of the law of Moses which must be kept perfectly.
i.e. Leviticus 19:19 You cannot have a mixed crop in your garden. You can only raise one kind of vegetable or grain. You may only wear a set of apparel that is all wool or all cotten, etc, no mixed fabric.
You must go to Israel and pay the temple tax (1/2 shekel) to the levites (try to do that one).
No images whatsoever, not even pictures! Take a look at the money in your wallet or change in you pocket.
Numbers 33:52 Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places:

We are NOW under New Covenant, and that way to live is to keep Moral code of God by abiding in Christ and empowered by the HS daily! -

it isn't. However using it improperly to promote a false belief is. -

They want to make their own god apart from the God of the bible. -
There are those who feel that God is interested in our subjective defiance, arguments and opinions about His objective truth, and quote Scripture via this ideology. Isaiah 1:18 for instance, as a proof-text we are called to reason with God, which is not at all what this passage means whatsoever.
On another forum a person argued that God's Word is really God's opinion, and we are to argue with him and that He can learn. -

you do know that the law was JUST given to isreal to govern theim, while we are under New Covenant of Grace, right? -
We are led of the Holy Spirit, we live by faith.
Galatians 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

You cannot understand the NT unless you understand the OT. An example is the potter in Rom 9:20-21. Many teach this is showing unconditional election, when Paul was saying no such thing. He was referencing Isa 29:16 and Jer 18:1-10. Here God says he has a right to repent of evil he intended to do to a nation or kingdom if they repent of evil, and that he has a right to bring evil against a nation or kingdom he had intended good if they turn from him and do evil. So, this is absolutely not about unconditional election.
But folks err because they do not interpret the NT by the OT, when all the apostles taught from the OT.
That said, FAL exactly which laws do you believe we are supposed to keep? Please be specific. -
I'm thankful to be kept by love, not by my perfection.
You love me anyway. -
My God is...
God All Mighty, creator of all people, creator of heaven and earth. Creator of the universe, creator of anything and everthing that we are aware of or unaware of.
He is the escence of Love beyond comprehension.
He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
He is One. He is truth. -
freeatlast has a passion for obedience, yes. I don't agree with his theological stance on issues, yet, we both believe our Lord Jesus Christ alone saves.
