This is a poll asking the primary reason you post on the BB. It is a private poll with only one answer permitted. You are, of course, permitted to add other reasons in a post. But I'm just curious as to everyone's main reason for posting here. By the way, there are no right and wrong answers...right?? :saint:
I won't necessarily answer every post. Tomorrow is church, and besides that I have a terrible cold that I'm trying to get rest for.
God bless
Why are you on the BB?

If I could I would give multiple answers. But over all I have to say friendship. I enjoy interacting with others.
I would also and that I like discussing ideas, beliefs, doctrine, and why Detroit sports teams minus the Lions are the best!
I think it is good to be challenged by others and be able to defend what you think and believe. Cervantes said "La pluma es la lengua de la mente." The pen is the tongue of the mind. -

Initially, it was for debate.
I like discussing. I like learning how to discuss. When I first started here, I didn't know how to discuss. My temper often got the better of me. If the other guy uses sharp words and innuendoes, you can bet your most expensive Thompson Bible I'm goin' be sharper and more insinuating.
But, time has mellowed that.
Later on I got a little better at keeping silent if I've got nothing to say that will be helpful (although every now and then the old goat still bleats).
Some time later, I was just in the BB because I felt trapped in it.
I mean, there was a time when I just wanted out. So I fired a letter asking that my membership be canceled out.
I found out it doesn't work that way (or maybe I didn't explore other avenues).
One avenue I was unwilling to explore was saying things that can get me banned. I've never been banned in a discussion board and wasn't about to start now.
Like I've never been fired from a job, and wasn't about to get being fired anytime.
I wanted out because I felt that some in the C/A forum and debates at that time, were getting obnoxious, the debates were degenerating into an "I won and you lost" and "I'm smarter than you, and you're dumb" thing.
Now, I just lurk in the background, unless there is something I really, really, want to discuss. Most of the time I post for humor, or just opinion.
At these times, I am here for friendship.
Some folks here are just brothers and sisters, if you know what I mean.
Some of them are on the other side of the soteriological fence that I am, but when they pm me and write me notes, I feel the "I love you, brother" in between the lines.
So, I'm in the Baptist Board. And am staying.
I hope Brother Andrew does something about those silly google ads, though. -
At first, it was to read what others are saying. It was quite a shock to read what some Baptists actually believe. That prompted me to get involved in the discussions.
On occasion, I'll start a thread with a subject designed to clarify my own thinking on it. And sometimes, I'll admit, my posts are mischievous in nature. But never mean-spirited. -

I think when i first came here it was curiosity, but my main reason for joining was to learn and for personal growth.I have seen MANY different opinions expressed on this board, many that get me to digging in my Bible to find my own answers to the arguments i see here. Love the fellowship some of you guys and gals have
and pray that when we disagree we disagree in love. :godisgood: -
My main reason is to read with the group on the Bible reading plan, but I also like to read what others write - I like to see other opinions.:wavey:
-
I enjoy reading posts on various topics. I enjoy getting in discussions on sports, theology, and politics. I read threads every day, but, as you can see from my post count, I don't post that often.
-
I picked growth, because Scripture tells us there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors (Proverbs 11:14, 15:22, 24:6).
All of the choices can apply at one time or another, too ;) -
I chose "Other" because my reason for being in this or any other Christian Web site is to have something to do with my time, and to keep me out of tempting porn sites by occupying my time. I'm in several Web sites. I also enjoy discussing my beliefs with other Christians and possibly even helping non-Christians or new Christians with their answers. In some Web sites I've found love and support, and in others I have found only judgmental and/or opinionated people like myself  who don't mind telling me how wrong I am.
-
John, I actually chose several: friendship, blessing, reading, growth, and how can I forget debating.
-
You should have included "all of the above". I think I've run through the gamut in my years here. :D Mischeif being one of my current favs. Good thing my time is limited lately. :D
I voted friendship though as when I first joined I had a very ill son which kept me at home for days on end. I needed some "adult" conversation while at the same time I had to be fairly quiet. The message boards I had been part of for different reasons, were compatible as I didn't want conversation with those who held to different lifestyles than I. So I went looking and found the BB.
Now that time has past and my son is better, I don't have the same amount of time I once had. Checking in here at the BB has become a habit (bad habit? ;) ) so my day isn't complete if I don't at least look to see what is being discussed. -
Friendship/growth. It works!

Thanks to everyone who has taken the poll and/or posted so far. I'm getting a real sense of community here! :wavey:
-
I don't come here for the debate. But I come here for a sense of fellowship. At a former board I was the conservative methodologically speaking... here I feel like a liberal  -

Voted other, probably ADDICTED would be the more appropriate options for some of us  At least a solid habit!
When will they be starting BBAA? (Baptist Board Addicts Annon.) -
reformedbeliever already looked into that last year :)

Hope you get better JoJ...
I picked other. I try to be open minded and so I love to see what others think or how others interpret scripture. Here you get a gamut of views from some really great Christians all doing Gods Will as they see His Will to be done. I never met a missionary, Old Regular, or even Primitive Baptist until I got here. Being here helped me conclude Christianity is a "custom fit" religion. We were each fitted with a Yoke specially made for us and defend that yoke to the bitter end... :wavey:
