why Is Being a Literal translation seen as being "wooden/bad?"

    The logos was also a word that referrred to a philosophical idea by a number of prominent philosophers. From what I can tell it points to the essence of life. Certainly Jesus would have been all of that and more.

    exactly!

    I prefer the NASB for bible study, but do at times grab ny HCSB and 1984 NIV to see what they see on a peculiar passage!

    please read either the Youngs Literal version, or 1901 ASV, and see if at times "more literal" might mean closer to origianl texts,but not best to read and understanding!

    People tried to always tie John to using Logos as being taken from greek philsophers, pagan sourcing, but many currently tie him into using it as was in OT wisdom literature! that his roots was from the hebrew bible, not the pagan philosphers!
