I tried to understand it...I also tried to enjoy it...but someone forgot to turn my alarm clock on, and I overslept after falling into the deepest sleep of my life

Churchboy, I bet you would. The americans hate the fact that they're not No.1 at everything...lol, it must really tick them off, with their american pride and massive national ego and all. Sad thing for them is that usa will never win a world cup. Not unless Europe, Brazil or Argentina get raptured first ;) lol

I think one of the reasons that most Americans do not like football is because they are not number one. Of course that also applies to basketball now and it is till popular.
-
Yea but they were the best at basketball for a long time. At least they know that. However, they've never been the best at football.

The two most popular sports in America are American football and baseball - two sports that are almost exclusively American.

Why DO American footballers wear all that padding; neither rugby union nor rugby league players do and they are no less violent contact sports

i think this came up somewhere before. American football players used to not wear pads, but someone was killed playing it because of the violence, and it was going to be banned. i think the President at the time stepped in and was able to renew it under the condition that padding be provided

Let's discuss soccer and it's future in the United States.
Did you know that currently in the USA, more children play soccer, than do Little League, Youth Basketball, pee wee football and the likes and other youth sports combined. This was told to us (youth soccer coaches several years ago) I think you find the numbers in one of the youth program web pages.
If that is true and I believe it is, I think that Soccer has a real chance to grow here in the USA.
During the 1999 and 2000 seasons, my son played professional soccer for the Indiana Blast, then a "A League Team" which is one step below MLS in the US. My son was a goalkeeper, who because of the fan base etc, was only payed $600.00 per month to play a sport that he loved. Since then he has gotten married, has a child so he has given up professional soccer as a lively hood.
But as these kids who are playing youth soccer today continue to grow up, they will help the raise of soccer in the USA.
So, yes I believe someday it will become popular. The women's National team has helped the cause as well.

I LOVE the sport after 10 years in Europe. It would be great to see my country do well at the sport.

After reading this whole thread, I have yet to see anyone give a logical reason why Americans should consider soccor a major sport. It ranks right up there with bowling, golf, bass fishing and watching paint dry. That foreign countries like it is irrelevant.
However, I suspect it will become a national sport when a few million more illeagle aliens invade the U.S.

the best part of part soccer is wen you see a player with the ball, way outside the box, he looks at the goal, and you can tell by the glint in his eye he is gettin ready to blast a rocket perfectly into the corner of the net. Like Riise against Leverkusen, you couldnt have put an aimer on the ball on gotten a better placed and more powerful shot
