I disagree that he would be the first black president, but he has stirred my interest. I think he is a story worth following. Getting ready to do that on Twitter :)
I have to say that I appreciate the fact that you, despite how you feel about the president, that you do not degenerate to petty name calling or silly nicknames. Kudos for that.
I think its safe to say that the comment about Irish roots was made in jest.
I never said anything about "not black enough".
If folks want to make a big deal that he is black- they should just simply be made aware of all the facts.
Bottom line is I could not care less the color of his skin - I am concerned where he stands on the issues.
He's black because it was politically expedient for him to be black. If he would have come out and said "my skin may look black, but I had a white mother and I identify as being white" then he would have lost the black vote. If uttering that phrase would have gained him votes, he would have said it.
An individual of an obviously mixed racial background would have an incredibly difficult time publicly identifying as a "white" person.
Do we dare recall the "one drop" theory of blackness so prevalent in earlier times?
Wait a second...weren't you the guy that just said, "No one has grounds to question his ethnic identity." ?? If Obama had chosen to identify as white, then wouldn't no one have the grounds to question his ethnic identity?
I could care less if our next president is the color purple with yellow polka dots as long as he has some common sense and a moral compass that actually works.
