World Net Daily, an internet cyberspace newspaper of presumed conservative leanings, displays advertisements from the leftist AARP, American Association of Retired Persons, over the "threat" to Medicare. Specifically, AARP agrees with the AMA on this point:
"On January 1, 2006, Medicare will cut the amount it reimburses doctors for treating America's seniors by 5.2% unless Congress takes action. In fact, the Medicare program's trustees are forecasting that doctor payments will be cut by a staggering 31% from 2006-2013. These cuts must be stopped. If not, doctors across the country may be forced to close their doors to Medicare patients - causing many seniors to lose access to the quality healthcare they need, when they need it. Tell Congress to fix Medicare!"
Classify this ad from AARP on WND under the heading of Money Talks and WND listens.
The advertisement from AARP revolves in and out of various stories but if you read WND you will see it sooner or later.
And here is a link to the AMA on the issue:

Congress will never "fix" Medicare.
It's too hot too handle. -
Actually the AARP supported bush in his prescription drug experiment that got costlier
and is confusing to a lot of seniors.
They seem to have straddled the fence. imho -

Bush moved in the direction that AARP wanted to go on the prescription drug benefit for seniors. However, I have an idea that the AMA is saying that the increase is not as big as it should be in their opinion in Medicare benefits to doctors and that is why they are calling it a cut.
There have been almost no real cuts in anything for 15 years, maybe longer. What the Democrats are now calling a cut is really just a reduction in the amount of the increase--which is usually above the amount of inflation anyway.
I imagine that WND is broke and will take ads from just about anyone.
