Hmm...most femine, eh? How about a nice pair of slacks, and a nice blouse, I'd say that's quite feminine! I don't wear dresses all the time, but I assure you that I am as modest as it is possible...Probably more modest than a woman in a dress/skirt...

Here's what I wear: Winter: Slacks, turtleneck, and sweater...There is nothing that I can do more to keep a man from lusting, because I'm as covered as you can get...

Summer: shorts and a t-shirt...again, very modest, and there's nothing more I can do to be more modest....

HCL, the issue here is that you have yet to prove to any of us how those of us who do wear pants are sinning, and when you come back with scripture, please make sure that the culture is the same to the one that Paul was writing to, or whoever, as it applies to today!

    Dear Baptist forever,
I ask you this. Have you honestly got down on your knees and asked the Lord what He wants you to wear?

    HCL,
Yes, we are to submit, but not to obey their every command....that's the Word, not me....

and the pants thing, I doubt it, it's a weak man who is lusting in his mind anyways...

HCL~you know what? My daughter, Farmer's Wife, had this happen to her a few years back when she was cutting her hair & wearing pants!

When her husband, the farmer, was out in the fields beside their home, he'd look towards their house & see her, but could not tell if she was male or female...'til he l@@ked at her chest!

If this cashier was seeking the Lord, which one of these women would she talk to? The one who she has seen consistently in a dress is probably who she would think would happen to know something about the Lord.

She'd probably seek out the one with whom she's most comfortable. If the cashier doesn't like wearing skirts, then she'd probably seek out someone who wears pants.

If the cashier were male, I don't think he would think one was more Christian than the other.

Actually, John, it would probably be the one who had already talked to the cashier and established some kind of friendly relationship with her...

Adam, Amen. I tried to mention that a few pages ago, pointing out how stupid it is to talk about clothes when the character inside of them is of much more importance. I got absolutely nowhere. Clothes make the woman, didn't you know??? :D

    Dear Baptist forver,
Could you please share the Scripture that tells women they are not to obey everything their husband tells them? I have not seen that one yet.

Hmm.....have you gotten down on your knees and asked God what color dress you should wear today, have you gotten down on your knees and asked God what to make for the meals today, have you gotten down on your knees and asked God what nonBible book you should wear next?

Why is it that I should, when I can remain modest while wearing pants? Why should I wear a dress when I'd be more modest in pants...I'm not the type of woman who wants to keep her legs crossed, I'm not the type of woman who wants to have to deal with the freezing cold because a dress doesn't keep you warm....but then again, because you said that wearing dresses is the most modest dressing, I guess I should wear it when I perform, you know, when the legs, to have proper posture, need to be open for all to see...Sorry, not taking your arguement...you still haven't proven a thing!

    BF,
Actually we ought to be seeking the Lord all day as to what we ought to next. And I have just sought Him and I know it is time for me to disconnnect.

I recently went out on a first date with a woman who, well, to put it plainly, looked more like a man than I did. I remember fearing that other people were going to look at me and wonder why I was hanging with a drag queen. Needless to say, I never had a second date.

And she was wearing a dress.

    Kilts on men? Wrong!

You're joking. I'd really like to know where in the Bible it forbids men from wearing kilts. Heck, even the secular James Bond wore a kilt, and his gender is not exactly in question.

This dead horse keeps being resurrected,
because the church and her people keep
    digging it up. 8o)

I do wonder, however, at the fact that I have
stated that skirts and dresses are immodest
for me, but not once have i stated that they are
immmodest for others. Regardless, it seems
that most who write on the subject try to tell
me that all pants are immodest, not only for
themselves but for me as well. Granny Gumbo
seems to be the only one who can recognize
that pants, for me, are more modest.

I wonder when we are going to start to recognize
that all things extra-biblical are based upon
opinion and the social circles to which we are
most adapted and are not salvific isssues.

God tells women to submit to their husbands as unto the Lord.

But God does not tell men to exert autority over the wife as though he were God.

    Adam --

Oh, that they would quit trying to make silk
purses out of sows' ears and start trying
    to make them wings! 8o)

    - - - - - - - - - - -

I had meant to mention, in my previous post,
that I have prayed about wearing pants rather
than skirts and dresses. I got an answer that
was different from yours, HCL. 8o) Why do I
suppose that happened? Because as people
are different, our God deals with us differently
and has expectations of us according to the
    way He has made us.

HCL, obviously, you are passionate about wear-
ing headcovering, otherwise you would not have
named yourself HCL. I am just as passionate
about what I do. Maybe I should rename myself
    PWW--Pants-Wearing Woman! 8oD Naw! 8oD

There are women at my synagogue who also
wear headcoverings, by the way. 8o)

I'll add some more to think on...about the submitting concept. We are to submit to those God has placed in authority over us,our husbands, church elders, masters, governing authorities...God has placed them in authority over us....it is a military rank that the word hupotasso(SP???) refers to. We submit unless they are asking us to sin, then we obey God rather than man. But,HCL is right, that we obey and submit.

I've had to learn this...my husband has very strong opinions about what I wear, mainly because of his protection over me with other men and such, but I did at one time think it was ridiculous...oh,honey,this skirt is fine,so it is a little too short....it is fine....or this blouse is not too tight,I'm wearing it anyway....etc,even if it was modest in the world's eyes,ny husband had a problem with it....Then after time of studying and realizing my wrongness,I repented before God and thanked God for giving me a protector,an authority over me...I want to do what is right, submit to him in EVERYTHING,which is what it says in Eph. God has given me this as protection...the same deal in a church, the elders watches over our souls, they protect us....we should submit,as long as it is not contradictory to scripture....I think this is the point PTW was making earlier.

No one has stated that HCL or anyone else has said it is a matter of salvation.....I think these women understand the gospel better than that. They are referring to Godly living. I appreciate HCL's seriousness and humbleness on this issue.

Interesting story for you. . .

One Sunday, my sister visited a church in Brooklyn. That Sunday, she happened to wear a very smart pinstriped pants suit. . . No way you could mistake it for a man's suit of clothing (our home church at the time had no problems with that mode of dress).

What she noticed was that during the entire service, people kept turning around, giving her dirty looks. By the end of the service, she was pretty put off. The issue? They didn't know her at all. What if she weren't a Christian and she just came to the church for the first time because she was lonely? Or some Christian had shown her kindness and she wanted to learn more about God?

A few things about Eph 5:22:

1 - The verbage in greek is not "wives submit to your husband as to the Lord.", it is "wives to your own husband, submitting to the Lord", which means that spouses are to submit to each other as they do to the Lord.

2 - This is backed up by v21, the often overlooked line right before this verse: "Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God."

3 - The Greek word hupotassomai does not connote obeying one who has authority over you as a child to parent, slave to master, or a military leader over ranks (otherwise, v21 would not make proper sense in Greek). If Paul had wanted a to use a word that meant submission of authority, he could have used the word he used in Ephesians 6:1, hupakouo (Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right), or peitharcheo, as he did in Titus 3:1 (Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good). The Greek word hupotassomai connotates a voluntary, willing and active cooperate with, supporting and tend to the needs of.

4 - Neither Eph 5:21 nor Eph 5:22 has anything to do with a woman choosing to wear pants, especially when she feels it is modest for her to do so.

I`m sorry to say that I find this hard to believe, without some kind of other outward appearance, necklace cross, carring Bible,etc... Unless you just look that Jewish.
