Just curious how many here would discourage their children fighting in a meat grinder in the Middle East? And if so, where would you go?
Would you help your children hide from a draft?

I wonder....does obeying your government absolve you of murder if the war is unjust? -
My Dad and I had sharp disagreements on this. He served in WW2. Mine was a different war. If the war was of the nature of an undeclared war, where we had no business in the first place, you better believe I would do whatever it took to protect my children from such nonsense.
A declared war of national survival is one thing. A politician playing games with American lives is quite another. -
I agree 100% -

How is the war in the ME a political game?

The electronics education I recieved in the Navy has served me well. I actually got paid to get it. It was quite a deal. A U.S.Navy advanced electronics degree is one of the most respected credentials in the industry. I had to spend a considerable time in the Persain Gulf, and I lost some friends in Beruit. But joining the Navy was the best thing I have ever done.
Like Frank Zappa, and my parents, I refuse to pay for my child to go to college. If she wants a degree, she can get one herself. I stronly encourage her to consider the armed sevices an option.
Just curious, how much time have you spent in a "meat grinder" ? -
Now on the other hand - GI's have been tried for murder.
For example, if I captured an enemy solider, and as we were going back to my OP, and we came upon a mine field - If I sent that POW into the mine field to clear a path and he was killed - I could be convicted of murder. And of course killing unarmed civilians - even if ordered to. -
Zero, and it will stay that way for me and my children. -
Would you hide your children from a draft?
No. A little cool breeze never hurt anybody. -

I have thought about buying rental property in Canada so the grandkids would have a place to go while they applied for legal status.

Considering there is no conscription currently and little chance of any being instituted soon, this isn't a really relevant question.

My rant over..... -
Again, the standard is the Constitution. (for the 100th time) Is there a bilateral treaty between the United States and Israel for mutual defense? No there is not. However, on a lesser level, there are several Mutual Agreements of Understanding to protect and aid Israel. We are a major partner in the Israel-Eygpt peace treaty to maintain peace. We have also chosen as a nation to abide by UN decrees and resolutions. Israel and the United States share common values.

Our relationship with Israel is not based on Scripture, although that may convince many to support Israel. Israel is a very proud nation. They neither want nor need American ground troops, which is what we are talking about here. They do cherish our moral support, technology, intelligence, and tactical support. Our dealings with the Muslim countries puts Israel in much greater danger today.
In the sense that we have directly and indirectly armed Muslims countries, it is a political game.
Until the United States declares war, fights with every means we have to achieve victory, and swiftly exits, no, not one member of my family that I can influence will participate in such nonsense. Did we have the right to be in Iraq? Why did 4000 Americans die? What have those deaths produced in Iraq today? Did we declare war? Did we fight by all means to achieve victory? Did we quickly exit? Did Iraq threaten our national security despite a lack of a declaration? The answer is obvious.
We have nothing in common with any Muslim country. They hate our faith, they hate freedom and liberty. Everyone has ranted for months about the debt and deficit. How much money in the trillions did we waste in American tax dollars meddling in the internal affairs of other nations. Did all the lives and money cause one bit of good will for our country? There can be only one policy towards Muslim countries. Leave us alone and we leave you alone. Mess with us and you are history. -
Fighting for freedom is not exactly the same as fighting for Big Oil and the drug cartel.

As long as you approve of the US military being "for rent."
It probably serves the reduce crime on the home front by killing off the Americans who want to kill people and break things and crippling the rest. It is an expensive solution for the local crime problem. -

Ok, that's fine, but I would ask that you not refer to dead & wounded service members as "meat". -

On that, I agree. -
It is my sincere hope that we as a nation never have to start the draft again. We never know what the future holds.
