Layoffs at FBC Hammond.
This was the first time I have ever been glad to hear that a business was laying people off. -
General Revelation
Can one be saved through general revelation? Why or why not? -
Overrun with catholics
Newark Star Ledger (NJ's State & Local News paper) sites a statistic in the Sept. 28th article named "A state of FAITH". 1st it shows the RCC remains far & away the largest religious group in the state, with approximately 3.2 million members.... with a larger number of Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist & Mormon houses of worship & their members growing quickly.
No wonder Baptists Churches are willing to change their names to eliminate the reference to baptist distinctives in order to attract Roman... -
The knowledge of the Son of God/perfect man
What is the knowledge of the Son of God?
Paul writes, "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Our knowledge is in part...
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come. (1Cor.13:9-12)This when the Church comes to a perfect man. (Eph.4:11-16) Then that which is in part (knowledge, prophecy, tongues) shall be done away.... -
Col 2:18 and asceticism
[ESV] Col. 2:18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind,
I'm reading the ESV through this year and was curious about its rendering of the Greek word for humility as "asceticism" in Col 2:18. If the translators are accurate here and people demanding ascetic fasting were troubling the early church, it would not be surprising if in some places orthodox leaders took steps to remove... -
I'll bet you don't
How often do you lay hands on and pray?
I'm not talking about "keeping" someone in your prayers, or a prayer list.
How often do you physically lay hands on the sick and command the sickness to go? -
One call...or two
The design of this thread is to examine the theological and biblical question does an Effectual call exist...or is there only one general call.
Several questions have been raised as to if there exists different "calls' in scripture.
Allan just posted this response and has raised some good questions...lets see how much we can agree on....and where we differ and why.
I agree with what you have above and specifically that the 'calling' is an identifying marker of the elect.. however this... -
Visitors Wearing Hats in Church
I tried to address this issue in another thread but the petty bickering that has IMHO ruined what could be a great forum. Anyway, I digress. I pastor a very friendly and warm church but it is a greying congregation. I'm 47 and young compared to many. Recently we have had some young and most likely lost men and women visit the church. Some of the young men either had a fedora on their head or a ball cap. For them it was the first time to enter a church in years. And they were very quickly... -
Congressman calls evolution lie from 'pit of hell'
ATHENS, Georgia – A Republican lawmaker said in videotaped remarks that evolution, embryology and the Big Bang theory are "lies straight from the pit of hell" meant to convince people that they do not need a savior.
Georgia Rep. Paul Broun made those comments during a speech Sept. 27 at a sportsman's banquet at Liberty Baptist Church in Hartwell. Broun, a medical doctor, is running for re-election in November unopposed by Democrats.
"God's word is true," Broun said, according to a... -
Spiritual revelation is required to believe spiritual truths
Please witness 5 major examples:
1 – In the OT, God personally revealed spiritual truth only to His prophets, not to the others.
2 -- God must provide a small seed of faith for one to believe the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.
3 -- Jesus spoke in parables so only those with “ears to hear” spiritual truth would believe it.
4 -- Many supposed born-again Christians just do not have “eyes to see” the Trinity Scriptures.
5 -- Many born-again Christians just do not have the revelation that...
