Evanescent Grace
John Calvin taught that some people can truly believe themselves one of the elect and truly believe they are saved, but are not.
Experience shows that the reprobate are sometimes affected in a way so similar to the elect that even in their own judgment there is no difference between them. Hence, it is not strange, that by the Apostle a taste of heavenly gifts, and by Christ himself a temporary faith is ascribed to them. Not that they truly perceive the power of spiritual grace and the... -
Regarding Time...
Regarding Time…
IMO, the evidence in the Bible for an A-series view of time is overwhelming. What scripture would be evidence for the B-series?
In this link, William Lane Craig subscribes to an A-series understanding of time with the start of creation. He believes that 'before' creation that only the B-series of time existed. WLC described time as "a relation among events".
Reading John 17 we observe Jesus describing what he and the Father had experienced before the world was,... -
What about cain ?
Cain was not created in Adam in the beginning !
When scripture gives us the generation of Adam, it does not include cain in the genealogy, simply because he was not originally part of that seed of mankind, created in Adam !
Lets read scripture here Gen 5:1-32
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were... -
Preaching the whole of scripture
SHOWING THAT THE SCRIPTURE DOCTRINE OF PREDESTINATION SHOULD BE OPENLY PREACHED AND INSISTED ON, AND FOR WHAT REASONS
UPON the whole, it is evident that the doctrine of God's eternal and unchangeable predestination should neither be wholly suppressed and laid aside, nor yet be confined to the disquisition of the learned and speculative only; but likewise should be publicly taught from the pulpit and the press, that even the meanest of the people may not be ignorant of a truth which... -
Do you understand the Covenant This way?
Do you as a professed Christian think in these terms....
1] never
2] seldom
3]always
4] I never have heard of such things;
and explain-
From Prof.David Englesma: Keeping Gods Covenant
Where today do professing Christians think of their salvation as a matter of God’s making His covenant with them? Rather, salvation is commonly thought of as their making a decision for Christ.
Where today do Christians practice the Christian life of holiness as a matter of keeping the... -
Female Chaplains
Suppose you were stationed overseas at a medium to small base. There were two Protestants chaplains, a mainline Protestant who is female and an IFB.
Suppose they each preach 2x's a month - but both participate in the service. For example the week she preaches - he does the music announcements and other opening activities.
So what would you do? Skip the weeks she preaches or what? -
Does prayer have power?
It is common for people to say that prayer has power. I don't really think that is true. God has all power and we pray to Him.
Prayer itself has no more power to bring about the desired result than my phone has to bake and deliver a pizza.
I use my phone to call the one who can bake and then deliver a pizza and I pray to God who has the power to raise the spiritually dead to life etc.

What is Your Purpose in Coming to Baptist Board?
Why do you come to Baptist Board?
I've been here since December 2010 and my reasons for reading/posting on BB has evolved. I'm wondering why others come here. I'll start first and if others want to comment or put up their own lists, it would be appreciated.
Listed in chronological order and/or importance.
1. Challenge and sharpen my theological viewpoints. As a former Lutheran that got born again when I was 13, I've been in Baptist churches (or non-denom churches that might as... -
Questioning the salvation of others on the BB
There is not only some questioning of the salvation of an individual, but some direct assertions that this individual is not saved. Will someone please deal with that today? :BangHead:
There's a lot of stife on the BB as of late and I find myself getting viciously angry ever time I come here.
I'm taking three days off from here and am going to do some serious prayer for my own attitude adjustment and for the attitude adjustment of us all here. The devil is having a field day and the... -
Debate without implicit insult?
Can any debate exist without at least implicit insult to those who hold the opposing view?
My answer: No, but that means we should be all the more careful to insult each other with civility and graciousness.
REASONING:
It was recently pointed out that those on one side of a debate (Cals) often say that the opposing side (non-cals) do not understand election, or don't grasp some other vital biblical truth, necessarily implying that their understanding is therefore deficient. THAT'S...
