Hey, they may head down here to the South, where one can pay workers a fair wage and still build a decent car at a decent price. We're building car plants right and left in Alabama. (UAW need not apply)

Still...it's a sad thing for what was once a great company, and what was once a great city. Detroit is a third-world shantytown now.

In Canada, the word is they want more government monies to build cars and car parts abroad rather than using existing facilities in Canada.

I fear there is much more behind the scenes that we hear nothing about.

As one born and raised in the Detroit area. I am burdened by all that is happening to the auto industry. It affects so many people finically and emotionally. The auto industry was more than just the economic foundation of Michigan, it was and still is a part of the culture.

That said. Many factories are already in the South or other parts of the US (and the world for that matter). Moving the headquarters just adds to the fact that GM already abandoned Detroit a long time ago.

I blame greedy unions and bad governing from Lansing that makes it difficult for businesses to stay in Michigan for the problem.

In Tennessee, there is no state income tax. Up north, you are taxed to tears with city, state, and federal taxes. No telling what corporations pay in taxes.

I have heard that Massachusetts is commonly nicknamed "Taxachusetts" because they tax you on just about everything. It makes me wonder if they also tax you to breath their oxygen.

Great...not only is The Great Bringer of Hope-n-change helping destroy an industry...but he is arrogant enough to think it's his place to run it.

Maybe we'll have a less authoritarian choice in 2012...like Fidel Castro or Idi Amin.

He has not destroyed the industries that people who are his parents age created. They have been shipped outside the U.S.

There was a time when duty was much higher than it is now. I can remember when a Japanese made product coming from Mexico was much cheaper than from Japan. Made in Japan is cheaper coming through Mexico. When I worked in Mexico I bought some Klein electricians tools made in Mexico. One of the tools was $20 in the U.S. and $9 in Mexico.

The American car companies have been building using planned obsolescence for too many years while other countries have been building cars which have steadily improved. Think about what would happen if America allowed the car company to go to China or if it allowed the car company to die by itself.

If Americans did not bail out the failing car company think about what would happen. Maybe the CEOs of comapnies might not be making so mauch money. One has got to think that the CEOs and boards are helping each other to enjoy a huge bank account. After all America will bail them out.

I don't want to rub salt in the wounds but you have to admit they kind of did it to themselves. They never stored in the times of plenty so they could get through these times of lean. How can you pay laid off workers 96% of their pay or continue to pay retiree's health care? Medicaid works for the other seniors.

This is by far not the first time the government has bailed out the auto industry so this grooming was long overdue.

I hated to see the president have to fire the CEO but let' look at the facts. The union wasn't budging and the restructuring plan he came back to DC with was no plan at all. Compare the carving this new guys is doing compared to that non-plan of the last CEO and it says to me that guy couldn't have been serious and someone had to fire him. And I believe firing the CEO sent a strong message to the union that appears to have been received.

Should it have been the president to fire the CEO? Perhaps not but with the tax payers money in the pot, economy in the tank and a chance the entire industry excluding Ford would go down I'm glad he stepped up...

RBell, I know we disagree from time to time but Bush/Obama saved the auto industry. They sure didn't destroy it. If anything, it was already destroyed when it came to the government for help. Yes, they are going through a lot of pain with this restructuring but it would have been a lot worse if the government hadn't of stepped in. 2 of the 3 companies might have been liquidated.

I could be wrong, but I don't think Obama has given the auto industry one nickel. I think Bush is the only one who gave them money but Obama did fire the CEO which I consider a necessary evil. And what good does it do to advertise when the banks aren't giving out loans and consumers are afraid to spend? Anyone who wants a good deal on a car doesn't need to see an ad on the TV, just go to any dealer and good deals are to be had...

Those states are right to work states and the employees have few right. Ever ask yourself why the roads regularly come in under budget down south. If we employed and imported more help from the south we would get things done cheaper and it is a lot closer than China.

Why employ Americans when we can get it done cheaper with import labor?
