The main news guy for this particular time slot was talking about the killing of the the abortion doctor earlier in the day.

He then turned to two other commentators, on camera, who were going to weigh in on a few topics. The 1st topic was the abortion doctor killing, and he asked a reporter named Warren Ballentine for his take on it.

    And Ballentine said...

"Well, its always tragic when a life is taken, particularly when it is an adult."

    WHAT???!!!

Particularly when (((it is an ADULT!)))

Man alive...I know CNN is liberal, but talk about letting the cat out of the bag!

I just couldnt believe it. And its telling that the NEVER DID call him on it. :BangHead: If I recall correctly, I think they just sort of chuckled a bit and moved on.

Nothing shocks me anymore about what the media broadcasts. Sometimes, between commercials, I'll flip back & forth between O'Reilly Factor & Countdown With Keith Olberman just to see what is going on & you can tell by Olberman's presentation that he is very pro-liberal. In some cases his presentation is almost mean spirited.

One other time, I was watching an interview on Larry King Live when Anne Coulter was appreaing. At this time Joy Behar was sitting in for Larry King. It was a very interesting interview. You had a strong conservative vs. a strong liberal. It appeared that Behar was attacking Coulter. Needless to say Coulter stood her ground.

The fact that this type of hypocrisy shocks you speaks highly of you.

But as King Solomon said, "There is nothing new under the sun....."

And frankly, but perhaps I am a cynic ......well, I am a cynic....... there is nothing that can be found on television or on the radio that shocks me anymore.

The guy's comment is offensive and stupid, but he's not a reporter. He is a liberal talk show host.

It's a strange comment. Surely death is more of a tragedy if its somebody younger.

If the choice was between killing an adult and killing a collection of undifferentiated cells I would choose the cells most every time.

Yep. I also suspect most people would if faced with the choice of a loved one or a mass of cells.

That kind of thought is a cancer on the body of Christ.

    "a collection of undifferentiated cells"

Everytime I hear or read such a description of human life I feel both sad for this country that we have stooped so low and angry at the ignorance of the supposedly intellectual American society.

If this is not some kind of joke (and I don't think it is) then ignorance runs REAL DEEP in some people! I would say stupidity instead of ignorance, but that wouldn't be kind, would it?

So let's test your views with a scenario I fervently pray never happens. If your wife were raped impregnated by her assailant, yet the pregnancy was ectopic (in the Fallopian Tubes), which will surely kill both her and the zygote/fetus, you would opt to let them both die rather than removing the cells from her tubes? Unlikely scenario? Perhaps. But possible? Yes.

If you want to mix apples and oranges, we can.

If the fiction you came up with happened, there would be no choice but to do what was necessary to save the life of the mother rather than to allow both of them die. This would be in a very real sense the mother acting in self defense. I have never heard any legitimate argument for letting both die in that setting.

How often does this happen - the ectopic pregnancy? .01% of pregnancies (just guessing). This in now way justifies the murder of unbron children in the womb of their parents for the sake of convenience. One statistic I heard in seminary is that we are now aborting about 1/4 of the pregnancies in our country. Do you think that God will not judge us for this crime? I think He has and will.

Then you see, it is not entirely black and white, is it? I commend you for your honest answer. I don't have time to look up the percentages, but if your wife is in that small percent, you would be glad there is no absolute law against ALL abortion. This is the dilemma created by so-called Personhood initiatives, declaring a human life exists at the moment of conception. In that instance, the zygote has the same right as your spouse.

BTW, I am against late term abortion for the sake of convenience also, as I have stated in the past. However, as with Zero-Tolerance policies, absolutes have no way to accommodate the exceptions.

Let me make it abundantly clear. I think it is a black and white issue. I think every abortion should be outlawed except in the case of saving the mother's life. I have never said otherwise.

By the way, personhood initiatives, the best I remember from seminary, is where (as some believe) we gain personhood as we gain capacities. One list of person studied went like this: we are not a person unless the following are present...
    --conscious thought
--aware of things external to self
--aware of things internal to self
    --able to feel pain
    --able to reason
    --capable of self-motivated activity
--able to communicate about an infinite number of topics

The problem with this belief is that the opposite is also true - if we begin to loose these capacities, we are not longer persons.

I prefer this formula: DNA = personhood; personhood = life.

The personhood initiative to which I referred was the one we had on the Colorado ballot last November and defeated. It declared a zygote a person, with all rights thereof.

Also, the word "except" means it is not black and white. You accept at least one shade of gray, much to your credit.

I didn't know. Sounds like a good idea to me.

No. Allowing this exception doesn't gray that issue any - It's still black and white (to me).
