Megachurch Minister a Megawatt Moocher

I would say the article was "enlightening," but that might be thought of as a bad pun.

So I won't say it.

Wait. Never mind.

Well, I suspect it was some kind of mistake ... nothing is said about the layout of outdoor outlets. Maybe the one in question could have appeared to belong to the pastor's house. But what I suspect is that the newspaper saw yet another opportunity to lift up Coral Ridge and/or Tchidivian to ridicule. If I had done this it would a non-story. But hey, let's make this beleaguered pastor/church the object of suspicion!

No need to be an apologist for the guy. The article says that after he was asked to unplug, he plugged right back in when the complainant left.

I live next door to a pastor of another church in our town. Since he moved in several years ago he has been setting up his hammock in our side yard and has even had his church membership over for a bbq - again in our side yard. The next day I am the one picking up the paper plates and plastic cups.

In the winter he parks his car on our front yard grass because his driveway is not large enough to accomodate his cars when parking is not allowed in the street. I am not sure why his own front yard is not suitable to him for parking.

Anyway, yes, I have talked to him about these issues repeatedly - and, yes, he just goes right on doing it.

I am afraid that there may be some sort of entitlement mentality with some pastors - I am sorry to say.

The Pastor was wrong if the facts are as presented in the paper.

But I thought he pastored in South Floirda. And the article is published in Chicago? I imagine it was a reprint of a story from Ft Lauderdale, but why was that important to Chicagoans... except of course to show how bad all mega-church pastors are. :tongue3:

No need to be an apologist for the guy. The article says that after he was asked to unplug, he plugged right back in when the complainant left.

But it does not say that he was present when the complainant unplugged the outlet. It could absolutely be something that he didn't know he couldn't plug into (not sure of the physical situation there) and when he saw it unplugged, he just went over figuring it was knocked out. It certainly doesn't sound at all like he was looking to do anything wrong. It's obviously much ado about nothing but trying to make it look like something.

According to the Dupreys' daughter, Elizabeth, her father found the lights plugged into his outlet on Sunday and immediately unplugged it. About 25 minutes later, he found it plugged back in, so the family called police.

The Tchividjians agreed not to use the outlet anymore, according to police records.

"The very next day, Kim, the pastor's wife, apologized profusely," Elizabeth Duprey said. "She said she was embarrassed, it won't happen again." The Dupreys declined to file charges.

It isn't wrong to steal electricity from a neighbor?

This guy a son-in-law of Billy G? Demonstrates the principle that nothing good lasts much more than one generation.

Unless we know the living situation of this pastor, let's not go too far into judgment. There are homes that are either connected or in a kind of community that you do not know where your house ends and another house begins. I have an outlet right on the border of my property and my neighbor's property in a flower bed on the property line. Who owns the outlet? Actually, neither one of us knows! There are no switches - just an outlet box about 75 feet from both houses. So if either one of us needs it, we'll just go use it. I do not think that this pastor, who is a man I absolutely respect and have read and listened to many articles/blog posts/messages of his. I highly doubt he was looking to steal electricity from his neighbor.

Such a petty reason for a news article or thread. We don't know what went on, we don't know why this happened, we don't understand their community.

This is a silly excuse for a news story.

if the average person did this, there would be no news report, only because it's an opportunity to attack the body of Christ is it news worthy.

Do you have kids? What are you saying about them?

Don't you have property lines in the USA? And hydro facilities that just grow up out of the ground??? Wow, wish Ontario Hydro would do that here. What if it develops a short and set a house on fire? Guess that's one way to find out. The other way is to check your electrical panel for a fuse or breaker serving such an outlet.

I guess the news reporters demonstrate that we, who represent the church, have more responsibility to be diligent about all our actions.

Cheers,

Jim

Actually, we kind of know where the property line is but my lawn flows into my neighbor's lawn with this flower bed in the middle. I will plant flowers in the bed and they will to - we take turns because we consider it both of ours. As I said, I have no clue who's outlet it is but it doesn't matter to us. So it's absolutely possible that he had no idea that it wasn't his outlet. Jeepers, you think he took an extension cord and snuck over to the other house to plug in? I don't think so. :)

Yes, I have 5 kids. They all turned out OK thanks to their mother.
I consider it a miracle from god, not the observable norm.

we have boundry lines, thats silly, anywhere people own property there are boundry lines, we do not have fences or stuff on the boundry lines usually for most houses, a few do because of dogs or kids, keeping them in or out.
