I assume they base this on standard of living, income, health care, educational opportunities?

As far as the top 5 go, France, Australia and New Zealand are three of the most secular and non-Christian countries that exist (and they all 3 have lots of New Age and Neopagan followers). In France, Christian evanglical groups are frowned on; it's one of the darkest countries spiritually - something like 1% or less of born-again believers.

I wouldn't give up Canada for any other country. I have everything here.

    Cheers,

I have everything here in England. You Canadians can teach us something. For here the first wisp of snow and all the schools close.
My brother used to live in Canada. One winter he was out taking photos and fell through the ice of a frozen lake. He had to run home fast before he changed into an ice statue.

Best thing that I did was to move here. Ripe harvest as well, very easy to talk about God here without people thinking your nuts.

If you speak French that is. :)

I wish people would stop knocking France. The people are great. The culture is relaxed and the food and wine is second to none. Maybe too good actually.

Family values are very high in France.

Have you ever been to France? Don't knock a place until you have been there and never confuse your own politics with life in another country.

Maybe life in France is so good because Americans keep going there and removing Germans.

    I knew that would come.

That is so uncool and dated. Man that attitude winds me up. It's one of my issues with some Americans.

I see no problem with having issues with another country concerning its politics and/or its foreign policy. However, judging the quality of life in another country as good or bad by whether I agree or disagree with its politics tempting, but short-sighted IMHO.

I am quite happy here and I have issues with our political stances and with a number of things our government has done since WW II [that might make an interesting thread] ... but that is separate from my quality of life here.

Most Americans do not know that without France the US would never have won the Revolutionary War. Maybe we have a good life because the French threw out the British here.

To me this whole discussion is silly and pointless.

Every country has it's good and it's bad.

The relative merits of each is in the eye of the beholder.

My guess is that this list was compiled by liberal elitists.

Try asking the minority population in France just how great it is to be living in France.

Actually the boss here Mr Sarkozy is trying to implement a new thought that proof of a governments achievements will be seen in the happiness of people lives. France is heading for another revolution. He wants us to work more than 35 hrs a week though and retire at an older age. :) It's possible at 55 here, not all though.
