NEWS FLASH: Liberal environmental policies hurt business!
That's the truth.
So, what are we supposed to do? Use these newfangled energy-saving spirals they claim are better? We have a few of those at our house, and they are worthless. On top of that, we're told we can't toss them in the regular trash when we are done with them.
You'll end up having to use the fluorescents. I toss them in the trash and smile as I do it.

I'm waiting for the LED bulbs to get brighter and come down in price. Those are even better, last a really long time, not as breakable as incandescent or fluorescent, and use even less energy.
As Paul Harvey would say: "The rest of the Story"
From the story
"The last major GE factory making ordinary incandescent light bulbs in the United States is closing"
Will you support legislation that requires that only LED bulbs are used?
We will be in the dark where it gets colder than 20 degrees outside - those stupid compact fluorescent lights do not work when it is colder than that. So, I am stocking up on as many incandescents as I can afford to buy so that I will still have an outside light during those long, cold winter nights.
No. I'm not into legislating everything I think is good. Will you support legislation that requires that only LED bulbs are used?

I happen to think LED's are cool, because of those benefits I mentioned (I also love the color changing ones used for decoration and display signage, and the richness of color LED's produce; it's an all around good and useful technology), but that has nothing to do with thinking everyone should use them or anything like that. In fact, then, it will lose some of its novelty/uniqueness. (Like is happening with compact fluorescents now).
It is estimated that if every house in the United States replaced just one standard 60-watt incandescent bulb with an LED bulb of equivalent light output, we could save an estimated 23,596,000 watts per day. Technological advances in LEDs (light emitting diodes) has taken them from simple red indicator lights to energy-efficient replacements for standard incandescent bulbs.

Their expected life span is estimated between 25,000 and 100,000 hours. The newer LED light bulbs, designed to replace standard household incandescent bulbs, have a life span of about 30,000 hours.
