Just certain groups ar considered fundamentalist.

Of course fundamentalism isn't isolated to just Baptist groups. :)

Baptists hold to the fundamentals of the faith.....but the group that is called fundamentalists.....hold to a rigid, sort of legalistic form of christianity.

They do not like to be descibed that way...but just look at there teaching...everything under the banner of seperation..

as an example...look up the requirements for someone to go to Bob Jones University,

Fundamental Baptist is a variable term.

I consider myself a fundamentalist, how there would be many fundamentalist who would say I am not.

Nothing is wrong about being a "fundy" - the problem comes in when you go to the extremes and demand others live a life that you think that is best for situations that are not commanded in the Bible.

But some would say that Bob Jones U is going liberal

Fundamentalism among Baptists is a specific and chosen title, referring to the time c. 1900 when liberal theology/higher criticism attacked the dogmas of Scripture, denied miracles of the Scriptures, the inspiration of the Scriptures, the Deity of Christ, the virgin birth, among many other things.

A stand was made against this attack and many Baptists adopted the name "fundamentalist" to acknowledge their stand against these errors. Of course today "fundamentalist" carries a much more negative connotation. Local bodies, and some groups still call themselves fundamental Baptists, unfortunately not too many really know what this means.

I am wondering when you accepted Jesus as Savior? Being raised a Baptist doesn't mean you are on your way to Heaven.

It pretty much depends on who is doing the catagorizing.

There are some who consider ANY church that is NOT an ultra liberal, tree hugging, gay affirming church, to be a fundamentalist church.

On the other hand, others would pretty much stop at the Wesboro Wacko types regarding being fundamemtalist.

It just depends on who is doing the grouping.

Sometimes it depends on whether you are American or Canadian. I am with the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada. Some are called fundamentalist whilst some of us are just evangelical.

At Queen's, my liberal mates called me fundamentalist, whilst some Baptist brethren deemed me liberal because I was at Queen's.

In the 40's and 50's, we accepted the term fundamentalist quite willingly whilst the more liberal Convention Baptists were so named. It was when we formed the Fellowship we adopted the term evangelical rather than fundamentalist.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Let me laugh for a second.

I considered myself a fundy until I came here and found I was a liberal in disguise.

What am I now? Forgiven. Labels separate that which should be united.

    :)

Fundementalist refers to a group of baptists who adhere to the essentasils of the Christian faith, but who would tend to be into seperation, and would be more "isolationists"

Hmm. That's funny. I don't remember isolating myself.... I think you are misunderstanding separation.
