from the link:
A former employee entered a chapel at an Atlanta-area megachurch headed by televangelist Creflo Dollar early Wednesday and fatally shot a volunteer staff member leading a prayer service, police said.

The gunman walked calmly into the chapel at World Changers Church International's main campus in College Park, Ga., and shot a 39-year-old volunteer and church member who was leading a prayer service, Fulton County Police Cpl. Kay Lester said at a news conference.

These are becoming far to common. I believe the trend will only get worse in the near future.

Returning home with the New Mexico SBC Disaster Relief team after spending some time recently in Louisiana we spent the night at a church in Ft. Worth. The fella that greeted us and got us set up for the night had been shot twice some time in the past as he greeted someone at the door. He said the shooter was smoking as he walked in and he instructed him to dispose of the cigarette and the guy shot him twice.

So sad to read of such things. Even here in Wanganui in the Antipodes we recently had a similar thing happen...

One of the schola took his daughter to the loo across from the carpark, and noted of all things a man wearing a balaclava (which sent alarm bells off in the man's head). On returning with his daughter,he mentioned the concern to the schola leader. This was during a Missa Cantata where the responses are sung by schola and congregation in plain chant.

We had reached the "Agnus Dei" and no schola......everyone was left thinking....'what the' and as the Mass cannot be stopped...the Master of Ceremonies managed to eyeball the Dominican nuns to lead....and so the Mass progressed to its conclusion and the schola had reappeared before that.

After Mass everyone was asking....and so the schola of about 6 men had descended in toto to ask the chap what was he about, he was welcome to come to Mass minus the balaclava....the chap spooked, took off across several properties with the men in their best suits in hot pursuit until the police arrived to apprehend this character.

Fairly amusing in hindsight but the 'what if's " are very worrying

It was reported the shooter was 51 years old and had been in a mental institution for 8 years and released.

In Australia, now quite a while ago we had a nutter blast a whole bunch of folks at Port Arthur....a tourism site. This was the worst case of suchlike in Australia at that time. It is NOT possible for a person with a mental history to obtain a license legally......maybe it is time for America the land of lunatic gun shooters to have a rethink.

Yeah I know, anyone with sufficent forethought etc,etc will get hold of suchlike, but make it harder .....

or check out how Switzerland deals with this, every man of legal age is required to have gun and ammo and lotsa amazing stuff that goes bang, but they don't seem to go on as in the States. Just my ha'penny worth.
