    A group of parents in Missoula, Mont. are upset over the religious nature of Christmas songs performed at a local elementary school – alleging the songs about the Baby Jesus is unconstitutional and a “form of bullying.”

    The parents, who declined to be identified, are threatening to sue the Missoula County Public School District unless songs like “Joy to the World” and “Good Christian Men Rejoice” are replaced with secular tunes.

    “Bullying is such a hot topic, yet that seems to be what is occurring here,” the parents wrote in a letter obtained by The Missoulian. “When the children are singing about the lord and savior Jesus Christ – public school is not the place.”

    The complaint came from parents who have children attending Chief Charlo Elementary School. A number of students are Jewish, Buddhist, and Muslim.

    They said they have no problem with Frosty the Snowman or Santa Claus – but the real reason for the Christmas season has no place in school concerts, they argued.

    Let's just ban all singing in school. After all, the writer of every song is expressing an opinion of some nature. Since others may not share that viewpoint, isn't the politically correct thing to do it to simply quit voicing thought through song? Then, no one can be offended.

    Forget freedom of speech as someone may be offended.
    Forget the Star Spangled Banner as someone may be offended.
    Forget Hound Dog as someone may be offended.
    Forget Ring Around the Rosie as someone may be offended.

    Problem solved.

    Not sure I would call it bullying, seems to using a hot button word in order to further their cause.

    There is a simple solution to this in the public schools. Just sing songs from all the traditions. Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan and the like. But what if I'm not religious....well, then there will be a song of silence. Three minutes of silence where you can fill in the blanks in your own head.

    Of course they don't like it. I agree the "bully" tag is just being used to get mileage in the issue. I am reminded of this passage:

    1Co 1:22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;
    1Co 1:23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,
    1Co 1:24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (NASB)

    They can go ahead and make another holiday then. You can't change the base meaning of Christmas.

    And on Judgment Day...

    ...those same folks will be protesting the fact that they can't get into heaven. It will be an extremely sad day, as their eternity in hell was so unnecessary. :tear:
