This is another false doctrine that pentecostals/charismatics teach. They divide tongues into two categories: the gift of tongues, which they say not everybody has, and tongues as a private prayer language which they say every Christian can and should have. Actually, there are three categories because most say tongues is the initial evidence of the HS baptism.

This not scriptural. Romans 8:26,27 does not teach a private prayer language, as charismatics erroneously claim. A careful and unbiased reading of these verses proves that. In 1 Cor. 12 and 14, Paul is talking about the gift of tongues which is not given to every believer, and, in fact, Paul makes it the least important of the gifts. Conversely, charismatics and pentecostals make it the most important gift and greatly overemphasize it.

Thus the charismatics have a multitude of errors on tongues.

As I said, I am not a cessationist, but it is clear that if the gift of tongues is still in operation today, it is exceedingly rare, as the mission field proves. And this belief and teaching of a private prayer language in distinction from the gift of tongues is just so much bunk because the scriptures do not teach it.

Before I address most of your post...and you knew I could not ignore this thread...let me ask you to show in scripture...
Where it says tongues is for the mission field? By example will be nice
Can you show me in Acts 2, 8,10,19 where it was used to evangalize?

You are off on an tangent, and not adhering to the OP.
The only reference he made, is "as the mission field proves," a reference to his own belief why Biblical tongues has not ceased. Now answer the OP.

Didn't see a question to answer!
And the answer to my post would give the readers a better understanding of what tongue is!

Actually, MOST in Charasma/pentacostal way would say that the Tongues are THE evidenc of being baptized in the HG, and are the ONLYsure sign one has received that 'further blessing!"

starnge, as the Bible teaches thattongues were given to ne a witness to jews in Acts, to fulfill OT prophesy, and were actual languages, while Corinthians outlines how there were to function in a church setting, to be done in order, and to be judged...

Still looking for "personal pyayer tongue!"

ONLY thing that might be cited is pauls expression of the HS Himself making intercession for us, in groans and utterings, but do NOT see that what personal prayer tongues would be cited!

If it is the Holy Spirit that gives the language, it is His language! We already have our learned language.

Vs. 2 Says that speaking in tongue is speaking to God! When I speak to God in any language... I consider that prayer!

What languages do you speak in: Cree, Mohawk, Hindi, Telegu, Pharsi?
Which ones? A language is real. It is not gibberish.

She always does that. That's why I have said she is either dishonest or has a comprehension problem.

My point about the mission field is that it proves that charismatic tongues is not a real language.

And there is no such thing as a private prayer language that everyone can have.

Do you hold that one MUST speak in tongues in order to have received the baptism in the HG then?

Paul says that tongues are for a sign to unbelievers. You evangelize unbelievers.

Paul says that prophecy is much more important than tongues. Yet charismatics ignore that, turn the gifts upside down, and make tongues of supreme importance. Is it any wonder then why there is so much error in charismania?

What kind of sign does the Bible say it will be to unbelievers?

Paul says that prophecy edifies, exhorts and comforts the assembly!

Most people that throw this out there ignore the word "EXCEPT" in vs. 5.
Tongues with interpretation will edify the church!

Again: What languages are spoken, and what languages are they interpreted into, and for what purpose? Who then is edified, and how?

    1Cor.14:22
"So then tongues are a sign for unbelievers."
How are tongues a sign for unbelievers?
Private prayer in tongues cannot be a sign for unbelievers.
    Answer the OP.

Do we see that in scriptures? Does it say in Acts 10,19 what language was spoken? Do we see in scriptures where they were interpreted in those chapters?
