Which, if anyone actually listened to his presentation, is exactly what he said.It's not a "chunk" of the sun. It's a solar flare made of ionized gas. It's not accurately to say it's "coming at us", when in fact it's been sent out from the surface of the sun to everywhere simultaneously.
They go in cycles every 11 years. We are at a peak activity. We might see more northern lights and see some amazing radio wave skipping in the upper atmosphere (dx in amateur radio parlance.)
