    Duh....

....is this really a surprise? The country is adament about banning gays, but allows children to be married. I'd say, they, like most of the world are on that path to hell in a handbasket!

I'm not sure exactly what the Ponch wrote, but it sounds like he wants to intervene in a foreign county - something he is normally 100% against?

Not at all. I still am 100% against Washington's unconstitutional and illegal interventions into other nations affairs. Precisely because this is a typical example of the results gained from them.

Less freedom and human rights for those Washington and the "international community" choose to liberate in the name of bringing them democracy.

Interesting that Salty would try to steer the conversation around this all to common phenomenon of Washington's long standing regime change policy.

if true, bye-bye to the blood, guts, lives, and limbs of those of our own who went and put themselves in harm's way to 'liberate' and 'democratize' those who were ruled by dictators.
I guess, when our troops leave Afghanistan, then we can say the same to them.
How much cheaper can American blood get ?
I am conservative, but at the next hint that we are going to send our precious men and women to war to 'liberate' a country, I guess I'll be right there protesting along with the left and the anti-wars.

Thanks, Carpro, for your post! That it was good enough for Mohammed is exactly the point. In the Quran this is Islamic law that child brides are legal, specifically under sharia law, which has been put into effect here and there in the Western world, as you know.

It makes me very angry if I dwell on it. No more being conned by the neocons for me.

That's about it guys. Our young folks keep investing their blood so the chicken hawks can play god and their financier and corporate cronies can divide the spoils amongst themselves and cash in on the huge war profits.

Like Smedley Butler said in 1933 War Is A Racket.

In the meantime...American children are being sold and traded for profit right here in our own country.

Where is the outcry? Where is the war on this evil?

Or is it good enough that this nation just calls it evil? So long as they don't SAY it's okay, and sometimes a criminal is busted, complacency is fine. However, if a nation outright says something like child brides are okay, we should probably declare war on them and overthrow their government, right?

    Appearances and all.

we have already gone to war in Iraq, Gina.
And that's the point, in case you haven't noticed.
American lives and limb lost in that country, and others like it, would have been better used in this country.
maybe there'd be less broken up families, wives or husbands who divorced each other because the pressures of deployment were too much for them, young men and women who kill themselves because they couldn't adjust to life here after spending a year or years over 'there' in conditions and situations we know nothing about.
and for the record, this poster doesn't care one whit if the countries the neocons, etc., are crying about and using as justification for sending our men and women in harm's way want to marry off their people right after birth, or pair a 9 year old with a 90 year old, or kill their daughters for the family honor.
it's their crap, we don't have to clean it up for them.

The point is that under Christian law child brides are illegal but under Islam women are property and little girls can be married as soon as they are old enough to have babies.

What law? What is a child? Wasn't it pretty common for Christians to marry off girls when they were old enough to have babies?

Poncho, loved what he said about Jay-Z. Got a whole lot of teens I can think of that NEED to hear that line!

Gina, you tell me if 9-year old girls were systematically married in Western Civilization under Judaism and Christianity. However, in the Quran, this sort of marriage is permitted. You tell me if this sort of marriage is permitted under Judaism and Christianity. And to help you along, I will concede that you can marry a little girl in rural Utah if you have a lot of money.

But here is what the Arab prophet said:

Mohammed said, "I was shown the Hell-fire and that the majority of its dwellers are women."

EWF, you have to admit that in the past, girls were married young and until recently and even now in some areas, it is still permitted for a girl to be married quite young in the United States with her parent's permission.

What happens with a really HONEST look at our Christian faith? Are all the things that seem so repulsive now about what is being shown about views among men, women, and children really all that different, or is scary because it is so close to what a lot of people think?

When a girl gets married young over there, everyone talks about how terrible it is, and it really is horrible to think of someone getting married at 9 years of age, but why, when reading history, is it suddenly okay when we read or think about girls being promised to a spouse by their parents from birth via an arranged marriage? Why do so many not shudder at the idea that Mary may have been a mere 14 years of age when she gave birth, and not just to any man's child? Why is that holy and pure, but if it's done in Islam, it is wrong, even at 14, 15 years of age?

What about stoning? Everyone here gasps in horror at this practice, but we can read all about it in our Bibles. Nobody talks about it in THAT context as wrong. In fact, a whole family being stoned doesn't seem to be looked at as anything but a prescription for bad behavior. However, when it is done in Islam now, it's awful. Everyone screams. To listen to people on here talk, I think that a number of people, if they really think about it, deep inside, would feel a type of satisfaction if this type of punishment still happened to certain people. Just for different reasons. Or maybe it should be more neat and clean, but the penalty should still exist.

Women and children in Christian societies weren't always given choices and freedom. Accusations of impropriety could lead to death and what on earth was up with having a woman marry her rapist?

Yeah, lots of things that are repulsive to us today were going on then. Maybe if people stuck to working on their own societies and saved going into others solely for missions, societies would be better off. I don't know. What do you think? Iraq sure seemed better off decades ago, and people seemed to have more freedom, didn't they?

I believe that nobody should marry until they are prepared. Marriage should be a lifelong commitment & those that marry should know full well that marriage is not a breakable thing.....its forever.

So now we are off into the Israeli theocracy and what is totally legal in Islam is not a disgrace to human rights because it happens on the fringes in the West so pure Christianity must be at fault, not Islam, although Jesus had no kind words for child molesters.
