    ..... here in America?

I am tired of seeing the Mexican flag flying everywhere I look [but this is California, and they believe we took their land, illegally, from them, and they want it back -per some protect posters by groups demanding amnesty]. I know the Confederate flag can no longer be sold in this state, but I've heard of Muslims flying the flags of their homelands too, in some parts of the nation, like in Michigan!

So, should it be illegal, or at least frowned on for flying other country flags in America? And even if it isn't illegal, how do you feel about other cultures flying their flags in this country?

As long as a person follows proper etiquette for displaying the American flag I don't see any problem. madre is Canadian, eh. I've been known to fly the Maple Leaf on special occasions like Dominion Day (Canada Day) which was July 1st.

Just a question RD - if you were visiting a foreign nation and you saw a US flag being flown would you think it right or wrong?

For example let's say I chose to fly an American flag on my house on July 4th. Would that be acceptable?

    A little curious.

If some are so proud of Mexico that they want to fly that flag here, why'd they leave Mexico?

Truth is, and we all know it, Mexico is not a country to be proud of.

I would hazard a guess that most of the people that fly the Mexican flag never set foot in the country.

How about that, I actually agree with Padre!

I don't even like to see the American Flag flown above a National flagof another country. - Same with any State/Commonwealth Flag - they should fly at the same height as the USA Flag.

and C4K brought up an excellent point.

Now, if someone living in the US ONLY flew the Mexican (or any other) that I would have a problem with.

Another question - is it offensive when the Irish tricolour is flown in the US on St Patrick's Day?

BTW - here is the US Flag Code statement from the link above

    That sounds pretty fair.

There's a difference between flying the flag on a special holiday then having hundreds of them being waved in the streets by illegals demanding amnesty! Or illegals causing a riot like situation during the Mexican world cup games, by taking over downtown streets and breaking laws, causing police to mobilize and riot teams to go on tactical alert! There a difference when nearly every house on the neighborhood street flies mexican flags seven days a week. Or when a Mexican flag is flown above an American flag in Reno, NV - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nONjlZ8YMkA

I think if the people are so proud of their country to fly that flag daily, while claiming to want US citizenship, is not showing loyalty to the nation they want to take them in dispite their being here against the law!

At the present time, California is has passed a law to ban the sale of display of the confederate flag - http://jonathanturley.org/2014/05/0...s-to-ban-sale-or-display-of-confederate-flag/ BUT they have no problem with sale of and displaying of the Mexican flag or anyother South American flag!

Here is a story of a HS student suspended for flying a confederate flag on his truck - http://www.nj.com/mercer/index.ssf/...erate_flag_on_truck_in_steinert_high_lot.html

The concensus for not alowing the displaying of a confederate flag is because of the slaves and offending blacks! And if you remember, Virginia ran into tons of controversy when the wanted to fly the rebel flag under the starts and stripes at the capitol!

I see nothing wrong with what you suggest, but I am talking about hypocritcal contradictions, and the offense that illegal border jumpers are having on Americans when they have the nerve to wave their flags at amnesty rallies! Kind of defeats the purpose, in my mind! :BangHead:

Isn't there a heap of etiquette for flag flying? Included would be the proper conduct in precedence, although if someone was making a mockery of a flag who do you report such to and what is done about it?

I reported to the school office some time ago where I noticed the flag was upside down...the children raise the flag in the morning. Evidently any supervision was sketchy for whatever reason. The flag was right way up in less than half an hour.

I wonder about your opinion of dual citizens.

I do not fly one at home, but I do have a Swedish flag emblem on my car.

That is not what I am referring to....reread what I said. Here in cali we are over run with mexican flags and it would improve my view of their desire to be citizens if they displayed some form of loyalty towards the country I love. I should think most feel as me?

    To revisit your original post:

You mention Mexicans and Muslims. No mention of their legal status.

Still seems like you do not like immigrants flying the flags of the countries of their births.

I cannot imagine passing a law that forbade the flying of foreign flags in the United States. It hardly sounds like what Old Glory herself symbolises.

I've noticed that on the U. S. Capitol Building in Washington, D. C., there is a POW/MIA flying beneath the U. S. flag.

Since that POW/MIA flag is neither the flag of a U. S. State/Commonwealth nor the flag of another country, my question is this:

Is it proper to fly a flag that symbolizes a particular "cause"?

People are proud of their countries just as Americans are proud of theirs because it's part of their heritage. National pride doesn't dissipate with them based upon what their governments have done any more than ours does based upon what our government has done.

Do people say these things to all the Americans of Irish descent when they celebrate St. Patrick's day? Or the people of German descent when they celebrate Ocktoberfest?

Other than state flags, military unit banners, school flags and certain organizational flags, no other flags have any business being hoisted on a pole in the U.S., with the exception of sports matches in leagues having both U.S. and foreign competitors, and at the U.N.

Is another flag gonna go all Rambo on 'em and kill 'em in their sleep? Blow in up their face? Harass their wives and children at Wal-Mart?

It seems like i read something very like this in another thread :)

    Try stepping back ....

... and instead of operating out of the liberal box, listen to what is being said. There are times you make sense, and then there are times that I swear you've been drinking the kool aid! I am talking about people that want us to accept them, in the state of being poor, needy and here illegally, and I am thinking that they hurt their cause by waving their countries flag in the face of the very people who will pay, initially, to get them settled and on the way to being a citizen.

Let me ask this, would you like it if you led a group of people to Jesus, and they started showing up to services and church events with a Lutheran flag, or a Catholic flag, or a Pentagram on a flag. And these people stood up in your First Batpist church and started marching around singing or chanting things related to the emblam or flag they brought to lift up and display showing where they came from or out of!

I think the deacons and a majority of your church would be offended, if not you C4K! This is the point I am trying to get across. I don't care if they hang their falgs in the privacy of their home, but to go and protest demanding amnesty and drivers licenses while waving their flag and shouting Mexico chants and singing Mexican songs, that is rude. If they arrived to protest and waved american flags and sang the national anthem in spanish, that would be something that said to me, they want to be part of what we are all about!

But their failure to assimilate and still carry loyalty for their homeland is a slap in the face of Smericans everywhere!
