Texas Gov. Perry indicted for coercion

Yeah, he did wrong. You don't get to use your executive power against individuals. I think there are mitigating circumstances, but it was coercion.

And why do you all suppose liberals are going after him this way. Could it be anything to do with the fact that he has sent troops to the border?

You bethcya.

Standing Their Ground

Rev. you have worn out the label "liberal." Why what would you say if someone used the word racist as often and incorrectly as you use liberal?

Abuse of executive power is an impeachable offense...unless it is Rick Perry. Then it's cool. If he is willing to do that. Imagine what he would be willing to do in the White House. No thanks.

Oh. I thought you were going to say unless it's Obama. Because I'm seeing Perry having consequences very quickly, but not Obama. Did you make a typo?

They? Why the division? Are you one of the straight party line types? I take it Democrat.
Leave the partying to the others. Come join the "if they fit 2 Sam 23:3" people. If your person doesn't fit, they're not right for the job, no matter how well they fit in your favorite group's box.

I've never voted Democrat. I'm pretty much a free agent at the next election. You asked me a question and I answered it. Your question asked why it was all about Perry and not Obama so naturally if Obama were to see consequences it would come from Republicans. I'm sorry but the term "they" is tossed around more in reference to "liberals" than anything else so that is a copout. Most of the people I have debated with in here are so staunchly ultra-conservative that me saying that I like the color blue would be considered divisive.

For those folk screaming liberals in the Perry affair, well it is a ridiculous thing to scream but not surprising.

Perry was not indited by a person, a judge, a politician. He was indited by a grand jury. That means at least 12 people found sufficient evidence that Perry had abused his power while in office. That does not mean he is guilty. It simply means there is strong indication that he indeed did break the law. Guilt and innocence will be decided at his trial.

Part of me wants to defend Perry because I can kind of see what he was trying to do but he could have easily gotten there by doing things the right way. He knows better. If he manages to get into a primary he is going to get crushed by this. His party counterparts are going to have no problem with throwing this in his face if they are fighting for the nomination.

Absolutely. A governor of a border state who is learning how one MUST deal with liberals to secure the safety of his state is bound to overstep his bounds, but look at the situation, and look at the example in the Oval Office. It's hard to blame him. That's why I said there are mitigating circumstances.

Face it, he was indited by a grand jury. There was enough mitigating evidence for them to say he should be brought to trail where guilt or innocence will be determined. Coercion of a public employee is against the law.

Is Perry guilty? I do not know.
Is there evidence? Apparently there is else the grand jury would not have indited him.

My guess is Perry considered his actions simply as politics. After all he is a political animal. Threating to veto legislation is permissible. Threatening to veto legislation if a government employee does not resign from their job steps outside politics and enters a legal minefield.
