I was brought up Baptist in which we kids were instructed to pray the Father and end those prayers, "In Jesus precious name, Amen!"

I use to follow NASCAR and would listen into the prayer. The pastor praying would pray, "The Father... In thy Holy Name." If that is not bad enough other people would pray this prayer as well.

I have wrote more emails chastising ministers for omitting the name of Jesus in their prayers. I believe it is a total waste of time to pray a prayer, and to omit the name of Jesus in that prayer. Might as well not waste your time.

Using the name in a prayer is not a requirement, nor does it add anything magical to it.

What is meant by "In his name" is to do it in his will and character. So if you are praying, and do it in his character, you are asking in a spiritual way and not a canal one. You are also doing it in a state of obedience and not one of disobedience since elohim doesn't hear those prayers according to proverbs.

We were told to pray to The Father in the name of the Son. What exactly does that mean? To me, it means petition The Father through the positional sonship we were given in the New Covenant. While there is absolutely no requirement to put the phrase "in Jesus name" in our prayers, it annoys me to no end when people intentionally omit it to be politically correct.

    Christ Jesus said....

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. - Matthew 18:20
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. - John 14:13
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. - John 14:14
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. - John 16:23

You go to the Father in the name of Jesus. If you do not go to the Father in Jesus name the Father is not glorified in the son. Consider the Apostles...

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. - Luke 10:17
Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. - Acts 3:6

If you go to the Father in his name you are nothing more than an imposter before this thrown. If you go to the Father in the name of Jesus... Well... There is power in that name! If you do not go to the Father in the name of Jesus you have robbed the Lord Jesus Christ of his Lordship and glory.

I have heard people also pray, "Lord... In thy Holy Name" or "God, in thy Holy Name". or "We keep things in our thoughts and prayers" ....

Well... That's not right either! You go to the Father in the name of Jesus. Some may use Yeshua, and that is all right too, as long as you are referring to the one who died for us all in your prayers. Remember there is a lost world out there, they need to be directed to Jesus and it is a bad example for people to pray and to ice out the name of Jesus.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear the Anti-Christ praying to the Father "in his Holy Name."

You mean "Our Father who art in heaven......", the prayer that Jesus Himself gave us is not good enough?

I , for one, firmly believe that it should not matter how you end your prayers. However, as in my belief, I always end my prayers with" in Jesus'name I pray, AMEN". To me it shows respect to our Lord Jesus' Christ. That will never change.

People that avoid using "in the name of Jesus Christ" at the end of their prayer sometimes do so because they know the name of Jesus Christ is controversial, while "in thy holy Name" is less controversial. Recognizing Jesus Christ in a prayer does not mean the person praying the prayer is a Christian or that the prayer will be necessarily more effective, but at least indicates that the person does not fear using the name of Jesus Christ. People that purposely avoid using the name Jesus Christ should examine themselves to determine if they are afraid to give an honest testimony of their intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Only those who are willing to die for Him can be his disciple (Luke 14;26). When Satan tempts people in the future to deny Jesus Christ,"they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death".Rev 12:11.

Just a quick note - what does it mean to pray in the name of Jesus? When we do something in the name of another, it is according to what the other would do. To pray in the name of Jesus is to pray as we think Jesus would pray given our circumstances. It is not a magic phrase to tag on to the end of a prayer.

"In the name of" or "In Jesus' Name" is a statement of authority.

When we pray to the Father, in the Name of the Son, and in the Power of the Holy Spirit, we are asking God to answer our prayers because we, being "in Christ" are praying according to His authority and command to bring our petitions to the Father in prayer.

I doubt of most of you are old enough to remember the old "Keystone Cops" short films. When the bumbling cops were chasing a crook they would yell, "Stop, in the name of the law!"

Nobody thought the cop's name was "Law." He was stating his authority to demand the person stop.

I am in Christ. When I pray I pray from my position in Christ. Regardless of the words I use, or even if I say nothing at all, my authority to come directly to the Father with my petitions is based on my being "In Christ."

    No magic. Just His Authority.

Matthew 28:18 Jesus came to them and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth."

If you look in the NT when someone prayed the did not close the prayer "in the name of Jesus." That is tradition, not a bible command or requirement.

The only people who can really pray in the name of the Lord are the saved. The others, can say the words in the name of Jesus at the end but it means nothing.

There is nothing magical or especially spiritual about saying those words at the end of a prayer. The Idea is that we recognize in our hearts that He alone is the way to God when we pray. A simple amen at the end is fine so your rebuke to those people was incorrect and you might want to write those people and ask forgiveness for your error. .

Look at what is called the Lord's prayer and it is clear the words "in the name of Jesus" are not there. So if you close with them it is fine and if you do not it is fine. The issue is Who it is in your heart that you think is the way to God. Who is your Authority? By what Authority are you approaching God?

By the way one last thing. His real name is NOT pronounced Jesus. When He was out playing as a child and His mother called Him in she did not call using the name/word "Jesus". She called for yehōshuˈa. So technically if you want to hold to tradition and use His right name you need to end the prayer "in the name of yehōshuˈa", not Jesus.
Is Yeshua Hamashiach the proper Hebrew name/title for Jesus Christ?

Sorry that's not what it means, It means "Praying in MY PLACE". If I were to visit a king, they would throw me out, but if I said "I come in the name of the Kings Son, my friend", I would be heard.

Arminians should never pray for others anyways, for they are asking God to change mans free will, also isn't God already doing 100% of what He can, but failing daily because of almighty mans might will resisting Him?

So how many times are we allowed to say it? Does the same rule apply when saying "In Jesus's name"?
